Well Bloor looks good now. But it seems Toronto gets one major street makeover every 10 years. Once Ford is gone maybe we can get some investments in the core again.

The Bloor Renos turned out just fantastic. I moved into a condo on bloor just as they were finished so I got all the benefit with none of the construction nonsense.

Perfection.

Not necessarily.. This was completed recently and the John Street Revitalization is coming pretty soon. Also the entire East Bayfront neighbourhood, Queens Quay Revitalization and the West Donlands will have the same approach to the streetscape.

Awesome. And that's without the spin-off from the Entertainment District.

...and yes that is James Cheng's shangri la in vancouver posing as a ~45-50 story hotel/condo for the project and the others are just manipulated chunks of its glazing.

Unfunded at the moment and cannot start until the majority of the second platform project is complete.

Thankfully, the NorthWest Passage (PATH expansion from Front to Wellington) is funded and should start construction late this year and be mostly complete by the end of 2014.

One thing I find disappointing about Bloor Street Renovations are the street lights design. Other than that, there is nothing to complain about. I hope Bay street north of Queen will have its makeover one day, what a depressing concrete maze.

For anyone who wants to download the sketchup models:

Here's the Toronto model
http://www.mediafire.com/?56oyy1j83b6l7tt

And here's the Vancouver model:
http://www.mediafire.com/?654k8y50dle7p5b

It's really fun when you put both models together and join the cities into a mega skyline.

The Toronto one is confined within Jarvis, University, Bloor and Front, so if anyone is keen enough to expand it, I have the autocad files as well.

Besides Terminal 1 at Pearson, I consider the Bloor Street Improvement Project more important than any other building project this city has undertaken in the last 10 years. The public realm is one area where Toronto falls flat on its face. That stretch on the Mink Mile is the first top rate streetscaping in the entire city. As the first, it was a pivotal project in that it opened the eyes of the average Torontonian as to how transformative it can be and how 2nd/3rd rate the rest of our streets are. My hope is that people don't see this as a one off project for a high end shopping district.

All our downtown streets should look like this. In Oslo, every time a sidewalk in the core needs replacing, it not only gets replaced with quality stone, but heating coils so snow immediately melts. Studies show that the cost of heating the sidewalk a few hours/week when it snows is far more cost effective than snow removal, salting, replacing corroded sidewalks, and having people slip and fall.

Canadians need to stop replicating practices developed in warmer climates and devise solutions that make sense for Canada. But that would mean hiring smart planners down at City Hall.

It's not perfect as there are many instances such as in front of William Ashley where the granite doesn't meet the store front. Overall, I'm very very pleased. Toronto is under going so much construction, that we'll likely have to tackle streets that are completely built out. There's no point doing Yonge because that street will likely be a massive construction site for the next 20 years.

Bay Street is a good candidate. There are only a few lots left after which the only upgrade might be rebuilding some of the bases of buildings to make them interact with the street more successfully. After Bay, Front and University Avenue should be tackled. Maybe by 2050, we'll get to the smaller side streets.

That is not the case for many streets in Oslo.

Torontos problem is that it cant even get its main streets looking presentable.

Edmonton is going to look damn sweet in a couple years! Wow Canada is doing awesome. Look at all of these emerging and improving skylines we have eh?

Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary are all drastically improving.

Edmonton and Quebec City, possibly even Winnipeg will all be entering the continental stage as competitively nice-looking skylines within the decade.

and Montreal is doing quite well for itself aswell but I wouldn't call it drastic improvement. Plus it is already well up on the continental stage haha

and even our small skylines like Regina are doing outrageously well.

Here's some perspective; Canadian cities that have built there first or second tallest between 2008 and 2012(includes UC):

Toronto - Trump
Calgary - Bow
Vancouver - Shangri la
Mississauga - Absolute
Burnaby - Sovereign
Niagara Falls - Hilton
Edmonton - Epcor
Quebec City - Complexe Jules Dallaire II
Windsor - Augustus
Coquitlam - Oasis
Surrey - Infinity
Regina - Hill III
Victoria - Promontory
New Westminster - Plaza 88 I, II and III
Nanaimo - Pacifica
St. John's - Fortis

....and I'm sure there are more but I'm tired.

He made the tower based on all the supertall speculation surrounding BCE3.

Ew. The shape and height are fine with me, but the homogeneous glass exterior is ghastly. Don't we have enough glass buildings in this city?
