Because a large block of the forum tends to ignore the Provo specific thread of the metro, but not the MSA or the SLC thread. Just notice the hit totals sometime. I wouldn't get to uptight about it though, it's not like I've ever made a habit of it.

ignore it? The Provo thread has over 38,375 hits. While this thread only has 10,000 more hits. That's it. Oh well I'm just giving you crap. LOL

Small updates.

I was driving by 5300 South in Murray last night and notice that the office building that is getting built at Valley Center Towers looks to almost be topped out at 6-stories. I think crews are working on the 5th floor.

Also the WCF building in Sandy has started work above ground now. It looks like the 6-story building will have underground parking. That's a plus.

Drive around anywhere I still see alot of 3-6 story office/housing buildings popping up all over the valley. Even during these hard times. That's a good sign for us I think that we still have the demand for these new buildings.

Yeah, but that's 10,000 more hits on the MSA, and it was started a year later than the Provo thread. I know Projects, it's no big deal which thread is most popular, but sometimes it's informative. You know, not all forumers do the whole "I love the entire Metro" like you and me. LOL

Speaking of project movement, I noticed allot of different types of activity yesterday at the northern end of Utah Valley, around Am. Fork and surrounding communities.

3 Utah metro areas among fastest growing in U.S.

http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,705291801,00.html

...The Provo-Orem metro area was No. 6 in the nation with 3.4 percent growth, adding an estimated 17,989 people between July 1, 2007, and the same date in 2008 — meaning it added the equivalent of a city with the population of Payson in a year.

The Logan metro area was No. 9 nationally with a 3.2 percent increase (adding about 3,917 people), and the St. George metro area was No. 10 at 3.1 percent (adding 4,142 residents). The nation has 363 separate metropolitan areas...

Update - 12-story building pitched for Cottonwood Heights

Traffic » But residents raise concerns about congestion.

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_11952441

Cottonwood Heights » With promises that a federal grant will improve the community's intersections, city staff have fewer concerns a 12-story building would negatively impact traffic.

But residents are still wary of the proposed Old Mill Corporate Center structure near the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon and the congestion it could bring...

I hate to say it, but I have to admit that I have looked at the Provo Thread once since I've been on here. Same goes for St George. I know that totally makes me sound uncultured, but I will try to do better! Love you guys down there in Provo and St. George!

Also speaking of activity, here in my part of the valley, there are apartments and condos going up everywhere! There are 4 apartment/condo complexes going up in and immediately around Daybreak. Then there are 3 rather large complexes in Midvale, 2 that I know of in West Jordan. There are actually *gasp* still regular housing developments going up here in West Jordan. I know of two right across the street from each other along Grizzly Way (52nd West) at about 80ish South. Then I have noticed a few houses popping up in existing developments out west in the 60-70th West and 78-90th South range. The apartments and condos don't really surprise me, but the houses do. I know that home-construction is still going on in South Jordan as well. It's not as hot as it was in the boom years, but construction is still going on. Looks like the rest of the valley is doing well/ok too - down town, Murray, Midvale, West/South Jordan, Sandy, Bluffdale, Draper, etc. Then I take it the the Provo-Orem are is doing alright as well. Here in Utah, I can't help but think to myself "what recession?"

I come from a big construction-oriented family. Like, since 1847 been in the construction services business. It's only since my generation that there's been any major breakaway from the industry, but even so, my point is that my family is still getting work, still winning the bread and not letting this economic hiccup be a roadblock. There will always be some sort of something needing to be built, and Utah truly is "the right place" to be in America today.

I thought the same thing Projects, and then also when they made the announcement on Fox News last night. Last night they were flashing renderings of the Cottonwood Mall project. I've seen the plans for the Holladay Village, and they're very nice, but not the same as the Cottonwood Mall. So, unless they've decided to use the Cottonwood plans instead of Cowboy Partner's, something is a little fishy here.

looks like crappy reporting to me... the above shots were correct, but all the side views were renderings from Cottonwood Mall. I bet they just thought most people wouldn't notice.

That is a huge project. I'm not buying the 10 million dollar price tag.

Yeah, 10 million is really only the cost of curb, gutter, and an intersection realignment. Lousy reporting so far.

In case anyone doesn't want to have to watch the video on FOX 13, here is the conceptual site plan:

And what they've currently got going for them:

(I'd say there's some room for improvement)

I like how part of Holladay drive will be a plaza.

Is Holladay Blvd. a very traveled road?

This plan pretty much kills through traffic on Holladay.

From my observation it seems like much more traffic travels from Holladay blvd north bound to 2300 East and vice-versa, rather than continuing on Holladay blvd or coming from Holladay blvd.

Yes, it's more like 80% of the traffic that switches to 2300 E. The intersection is already so ridiculous that the new one will surely be welcomed by those traveling the end half of Holladay Blvd.

Most of those renderings are of Cottonwood, don't really know why except there aren't many street-view renderings of this project. They tore down the first building to make way for this project a few years ago, and it just sort of sat vacant because there were a lot of issues (they didn't have enough money so they ended up selling it to Walgreens, which was petitioned against by the locals because no one wanted a Walgreens next to two other locally-owned pharmacies, so they had some court issues after which Walgreens sold the land back and bought one of the local pharmacies instead) and it was eventually completely overshadowed by Cottonwood (and I'm pretty sure the renderings for the village project came along before Cottonwood). So I'm excited that they're actually going to do something, because it looks pretty run-down as it is. They're also tearing down the fire station station up the road to build a park behind the city hall, which was just wishful thinking when they first proposed the project several years ago. Adding lots of commercial to Holladay, both here and in Cottonwood, has gotten really mixed reviews, hence all the restrictions. And yeah, $10 million will certainly not cover this project.

It is a nice improvement from what already exist.

Are there any plans for TRAX through this development?
