Kendall Yards is starting to look good. Seems to have lots of momentum behind it.

Does anyone know if the status of the South Hill rockwood retirement building? Rendering looks nice. According to the old article below they should have broke ground by now.

Burgan's Block

It also looks like they started working on the burgans buildings on division. Here is a video I found on the local news. The economy must be improving somewhat....I hope.

CC Hotel New Rendering

http://www.spokanepfd.org/completion/hotel.php

New picture of the convention center hotel. Better rendering than the ones I saw before, but still doesn't look like it has any glass on the east and west sides of the building. It would probably be 400ft tall if it were height and width were reversed.

Well.....not as bad as a thought! It is something I can live with and I look forward to see what other possible developments with develop around this hotel. Little fish follow the big fish.....

I'm glad they're using a brick facade instead of concrete. It actually doesn't look bad. It looks more Davenport Hotel than Davenport Tower. I've seen that they're already digging at the site.

The davenport group had the spokesman review pull the picture from their website stating that rendering is inaccurate. They said there will be a new rendering they will make available next week. Also, has anyone heard about what national hotel chain the Worthy's will be partnering with?

Ridpath Hotel

It would be nice to see this part of town cleaned up. The Ridpath has had one obsticle after another for the past several years. I hope this actually happens.

I agree.....kinda get that feeling that there is some positive momentum happening in Spokane. Now if we can just speed things up in the U-district, start on the light rail from gonzaga to brownes addition, and get a new iconic-like skyscraper.....Spokane will feel like a city that's going somewhere!

That all sounds great revrw. I would like to see that U-District pedestrian bridge get going. Wouldn't hurt to speed up KY also. Are they still planning taller buildings in that development? I thought they were planning on having a few 10 story buildings there- probably scaled back from the original plan. Everything so far appears to be about 3 stories.

Here is another small read about the Ridpath. It says that Wells estimates construction will begin by Janruary. Good news if that true.

Bad press never helps. They probably could have chose any location. Spokane gets the short end of the stick on this one.

i can see this sort of thing happening in Spokane giving its high crime and murder rates, after all the whole country looked in on the killing of that ww2 vet.... face it if the police don't step up to the plate i can see Spokane as another Detroit in 30 years

I think that's a little far fetched whovean, even 30 years from now. Spokane had a total of 13 homicides last year. 12 so far this year. That's not per hundred thousand. How may did St. Louis or Kansas City have? I have a hard time even finding Spokane on any national crime statistics list. Spokane has a bad rap. I'm not saying its the cleanest place, but most major cities are far more violent. Property crime is another story.

lol I HOPE YOUR NOT COMPARING SPOKANE TO St. Louis or Kansas City ? St. Louis and Kansas City both have city pops over 1 million Spokane has little over 200k
Thats 6 murders per 100k per year thats high for a town of your size i mean just look at your neighbor Boise lower crime and murder rates and now a bigger population wonder why they did not use Boise in the article or where i live Springfield (same size as Spokane far less crime)

A few things: the ridiculous article in question, I'm pretty sure there was no special reason they used Spokane. Any large Washington city could have been used, such as Tacoma, Vancouver or even Seattle.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't think I've ever felt unsafe in Spokane, including walking around downtown late at night. It's quite a long way from being Detroit! Don't be fooled by media sensationalism. Firefighter 74 said it; WA has above average rates of property crime (true of the entire state), but otherwise, we're not notably higher in other categories.

Lastly, I would also guess Spokane wasn't being compared to KC or St Louis, they seem to be in a different (crime) league all together. Check out this link of US News 11 most dangerous cities, with particular interest in #1. PS, it's not Spokane!

I wasn't comparing KC or ST. L directly to Spokane, I was making reference to Springfield's proximity to such high crime areas. Not that 3 hours is really that close. Don't get me wrong, Spokane has problems, but nothing like most 200+ cities. Again I stress most. In 2009 we had 7 homicides, 2010 there were 6, and in 2011 only 4. I did read that the mayor wants to create 30 new pd positions. Not sure if that's going to keep people from murdering each other. Spokane has 50,000 more people than Springfield and I'm not sure "far less crime" is all that accurate.

I have never seen the word "Bruncheon" until now.

In fact, my Chrome browser flags it as a misspelling.
