Actually, Andy Loughnane, Austin FC president has been quoted several times as saying any expansion would happen no earlier than for the 2023 season. It's a mid-term goal and not immediate. But, it will happen within the next few years.

There are 20,738 seats (~15,500 season ticket holders) now and roughly 24,000 on a season ticket waiting list. They'll want to turn some those into additional ticket holders as soon as they can.

I asked about expansion on our season ticket holder stadium tour. They echoed this sentiment. They said if season tickets hold for 2 years they will add 1500 as a terrace off the north end structure. So 23/24 season I would expect them to come online.

The Verde Square rezoning is on the city council docket for next week. No drawings included with the package, but it's noted that:

Quote:
The applicant is requesting to rezone the property to redevelop the site with a mixed-use project that will include approximately 386,000 square feet of office space, 33,900 square feet of retail uses, a 160-key hotel, and 280 multi-family residential units
https://www.austintexas.gov/edims/do....cfm?id=367839

The new zoning would allow height increases up to 308 feet.

This would pair nicely with Arena Tower and bring good height to that area.

Plus the connection to the red line opening in the next year should really improve the stadium experience assuming we get some nice post-game hang spots out of all this.
