Image of 1 of 10 wind turbines going up in Saint John Energy's new wind farm in Lorneville.

Economic impacts of the project include:
About $32M of project investment that will stay in the Province
$11M of taxes and land royalties paid to the municipal and provincial governments
+100 jobs during construction

All around an awesome project!

384 Lancaster Sells for Second Time in Four Years

Quote:
"Brunswick Brokers Limited is pleased to announce that 384 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John has been sold again. The property is located in west Saint John not far from Reversing Falls Bridge and features a 25,000+/- sq ft commercial building on 1.91 acres of land. Unfortunately it’s too soon to announce publicly what the new owner’s plans are.

This is the second time this property has traded hands in the past 4 years. It sold previously in 2018 when T4G Limited struck a deal with Nuuvera Inc. As part of the acquisition, Nuuvera had successfully rezoned the property to allow it to be used as a laboratory for the testing and production of medicinal cannabis oils. The property was never used for cannabis processing and in late 2021, the owners determined that the property was no longer required by their company and listed it for sale".

I've seen some chatter from someone who says they were told it might be the temporary location for the NB Museum.

AllNewBrunswick is reporting that JYSK bought the building. They didn't say what they will be using it for. Most likely for an office or warehouse or something. Would be an odd choice of property for a store location. Overall, hopefully this is an indication that they are planning to open a store in the city.

I'd rather that then the museum being located there.
Will die on the hill that the museum should stay uptown. If Saint John is going to be focusing heavily on cruise ship foot traffic, best to have a museum within a short walking distance of the boats.

I think we all need to prepare ourselves for the likelihood that the museum announcement might not be for an Uptown location.

I am resigned to that. Higgs definitely does not want to support uptown Saint John.

Would the approval process not be the similar to that of any other project? (PAC, 1st, 2nd and 3rd hearing)

So… if the province comes back with a brutal proposal then council could deny it.

My only worry would be that the province takes it as it is and moves it to Mon or Fred

Municipalities are creatures of the province. As far as development decisions are concerned, the province can do whatever the hell it wants. There is nothing the city can do about it. The classic example in Moncton is of Moncton High School, which the province decided to locate out by the Kent County line (for dubious reasons probably including a major conflict of interest). The city dutifully expressed it's outrage, but the province told the city to fuck off, and that was it.........

I always wondered why Moncton would’ve allowed that to happen but that makes sense now. Thanks for the insight.

I think we have to be realistic that the Province wants to own their buildings, and unless they already own the land, they are normally quite averse to buying expensive urban realty. As much as I want it on the waterfront, are we really expecting GNB to fork out the money to buy land enough for 2 large public buildings - a new school, and a new museum - in the Uptown core in the very near future? I just can't see it, especially if a few bureaucrats start poking around and see the amount of large plots of land they already own in areas nearby, such as former schools, surplus lands, etc.

I don't disagree with this. I wonder if the new Fundy Quay development is being groomed for an exhibition space for the museum? That would be interesting.

On the subject of a school location, yeah, I do expect them to fork out cash. They HAVE to put a school somewhere between the harbour, viaduct, and Marsh Creek. They don't have a choice. Maybe land swaps for one of the current schools?

Start with uptown- nope. Nothing big enough available. Waterloo Village? Chown Field plus the current Prince Charles and the IOL office building on the corner would be big enough. Otherwise, nothing. I can't imagine they would consider near Service Canada. The South End is the only likely space, and AFAIK the only realistic options are in the vicinity of Rainbow Park, the block of Carmarthen between Queen and St James, or St John the Baptist/King Edward's site.

If they so much as theorized putting the school outside these three neighbourhoods people would go berserk. This is one of the poorest and likely one of the lowest car ownership rate locations in NB.

It's a shame Moncton is so far out there. Urban high schools are fun. I probably wouldn't have moved uptown after school if I wasn't exposed to the convenience of learning/eating/working without driving around.

Agreed to the above comment

The school has been branded as the “South Central Peninsula School”. It will be somewheres on the peninsula.

I think we’re saying the same thing, I 100% believe the school must - and by all indications, will - be in the central peninsula, which is why I can’t see the province also acquiring land for a museum as well.

Port expansion can’t come soon enough. Hapag Lloyd is diverting a ship currently enroute, going to Montreal instead of Saint John as the port is too congested.
