YES! Confirmed by the media after Friday's ride-a-long.

It may not be available in all networks though. The city signed a deal with Telus only, so only interoperable networks will have signal down there. That's Bell, maybe Rogers, but almost certainly not Freedom or Videotron, so only 2 or 3 out of 5 providers in the city.

Ottawa should have made it open access to all telecoms instead of signing an exclusive deal.

Now I need to bring a book while taking the train...

It’s like how Toronto has had cell service on its subway for years now but freedom mobile is the only one who has actually signed on.

I can confirm that Bell and Telus work in all the undergound stations. Rogers doesn't work at all. Telus also offers free wifi in Rideau Station.

Does the free wifi work for all cell phones, regardless of service provider?

The STM did it the right way, they had an offer from Telus which then the STM required to support most major cell operators.

The same provider in Toronto (which had won the initial contract) had failed to get any phone carrier in Montréal.

Should the government give up revenue or bare costs instead of signing exclusive agreements?

Yes. Cell service in transit infrastructure is a public service/need and it's useless if only some people can have it.

At the least just allow multiple companies to set up infrastructure. But that's obviously stupid when you could just mandate the monopoly has to provide service to all and forgo a little payment.

Yes, I was able to connect and I'm not a Telus customer. If I recall correctly, you just need to register with an e-mail address. There might also be a Facebook or Google sign-in option.

It's a modern electric bus that is designed like a tramway with it's own reserved lane separated from the traffic. It's the technology and the comfort of a tramway but on tires rather than rail.

i'm not sure I'd consider either a trollybus or battery electric bus the same technology as a tram consdering that the rails are the biggest defining feature of a tram, but it's great that they're investing in transit improvements.

A trambus doesnt have overhead wires. The engine of trambus is 100% electric but you can drive it like a regular bus.

But honestly, I dont really care if they go with trambuses in certain parts as long as the "cherry on the sundea" of the structuring network will be the tramway
