I think if you can study at a post-secondary level you can probably adapt to transit system changes!

This extreme? Yes, but when you are dealing with leaving home for the first time, your first apartment, a big city, etc, this just makes it harder.

This might be the best way to teach them survival skills though. Universities don’t teach people practical things these days.

Lol. Are you really serious? The student loan by itself should be a trauma, the rest is just silly.

I guess none of you ever had an issue with any part of change. Most humans do have some difficulty with change.

Worst years of my life and I did two masters in engineering and a Ph.D. Early 2000s were horrible to get a job. I still don't get the point of such idiotical system. Just do an IQ test and save me 18 years of BS.

During certain years when I was the age of some of these students, I had to decipher perhaps 50 unfamiliar transit systems over a 12-month period, in languages I didn't understand, in totally unfamiliar cities, some with different alphabets and writing systems, different currencies and payment systems, etc. Sometimes after dark with few people around to assist me.

I survived just fine.

Maybe I'm not seeing it, but what is so extreme about switching from a bus to train?

Pretty much anyone who is using OC transpo now is going to figure out how to use Confederation line after a day. It's not like this thing magically appeared overnight. If it's a concern about students who have just moved in to town, well, if they were able to figure out the bus for the first few days, they are probably equipped well enough to figure out trains.

The particularly crazy bit is that the bus will drop them off and pick them up at an LRT station if it's enroute.

If they struggle figuring it out then, they should probably reconsider post-secondary.

They're also going to have an extra 3 weeks of the same bus service after LRT opens so they'll have plenty of time to adjust. It's really not a big deal.

Transit Systems 101 wasn't available on my choice of electives and I don't think any university has offered it.

Then again, universities aren't necessarily about 'job training' per se. Yes, they have professional schools, but that's generally been a second function of universities.

That's a different discussion though.

There is actually a third year course called 'The Transit City' at University of Calgary. Not a requirement for my degree, but it's definitely not a bad thing to have on my transcript. It was one of my favourite classes. We got to design an ARP (Area Redevelopment Plan) for our term project, very cool. My team got Marda Loop.

Major is Urban Studies, minor in Cultural Anthropology, and a certificate of sustainability studies. All underway simultaneously

I posted this before watching it fully, so I wanted to pin-point a few segments.
  • The first 1:30 is a partial tour of Blair Station.
  • 1:30 to to 22:00 is the ride from Blair to Tunney's (with downtown tunnel 12:50 to 18:05).
  • At 23:14, we can hear the Confederation's line's door chime.
  • 23:15 up until the end is a tour of the underground Lyon Station in downtown Ottawa.

I forgot to ask a very important question: Will there be cellular signals in the underground portion of Confederation Line?
