I doubt it's much of a problem considering the kind of trees they are planting. Library Square probably shadows over the steps more than any tree would.

In our increasingly hot summer the trees will be a godsend for people sitting out there. I just hope the building management stays on top of clearing the fallen leaves in the Autumn.

Speaking of which, Library Square has composting leaves all over following the snowfall last month. The small trees retained leaves very late into the year, and the snowfall caused them to fall.

Might be worth going up into the library and see there's any work being done in the office towers.

Pic by me Sat, Feb 11th:
Why to I expect lighting overkill when the edge floodlighting on the old Post Office facade plus the floodlights for the coats of arms are turned on?

Amazon will require its employees to work from the office at least three days per week, effective May 1.

CEO Andy Jassy told employees Friday the executive team made the decision earlier this week. The announcement comes after nearly three years of observing and experimenting with different models of fully-remote work and a hybrid of in-person and work from home.

The company observed, Jassy said, that it’s easier to “learn, model, practice and strengthen our culture when we’re in the office together most of the time and surrounded by our colleagues.”

Interesting. So for downtowns that had an office that's a 40% reduction in foot traffic from their employees vs pre-Covid.

Only if pre-covid all the business's employees worked in the office every working day. That may have been the case - especially if you're someone who dwells in your office, obviously.

They will have to get used to the decreased (pre-Covid) foot traffic. I expect this 2/3 days in the office per week is the reality moving forward for many.

The flood lights were on the other night. Not a continuous band around the edge, and the down lights on the columns were not lit. Divots around the Coats of Arms lit up blue.

Yes, the same policy is being implemented where I work. This will be an improvement over the status quo for foot traffic but it won’t bring back pre-COVID reality. I appreciate all sides of the argument, but from lean toward the environmental argument that commuting should be avoided when unnecessary.

my work went to this about a year ago already. depending on the department manager, youll get 2-3 days per week in the office minimum. i dont see it going anywhere.

it is interesting to read about NYC and the issues theyre having with the MTA and tax income. to try and combat it the city mandated all municipal employees back 5days/week. i mean the MTA even cut service hours. i dont even think we have done that here.

It is good for employees, not so great for downtowns which depend on workers coming in from outside the area to support all the businesses. I wonder if the office building boom represented by The Post is the last we will see for a long time downtown?
