a while back i heard rumors of a footbridge connecting 5th and clegg to the north of lansdowne, right next to the canal ritz...this would make a TONNE of sense...anyone know if this is part of the plan?

Harley--the footbridge at clegg and fifth is not part of the LP plan---but it is a separate issue that the city is considering

In other words a footbridge could happen , or not, no matter what goes on with LP.

Just saw this tweet from John Willing of the Ottawa Sun. If this happens I wonder if OSEG will walk away from the project.

I find this very odd right around when the judge is expected to make a rulling now there going to file i really can't see this going over well.

More stall tactics by a crybaby didn't get his way. Where was this proposal four years ago during the competition? I think if the judge rules in favour of the city that he should be entitled to absolutely nothing.

This is beyond the ridiculous now. Any more stalling and the sports deal will fall through, which is just want they want. JE Martin needs to go away. His 'idea', and it isn't more than that, was never in the running and never considered. This democratic abuse needs to stop, but I know it won't until the Glebe gets its own big grassy field with nothing in it.

Here's the article from CBC.

Lansdowne Park deal to face 2nd court challenge

CBC News Posted: Jul 20, 2011 2:27 PM ET Last Updated: Jul 20, 2011 2:27 PM ET

The group behind an alternative proposal for the renovation of Lansdowne Park said it will file papers later this week asking for a judicial review of the city's deal with Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, the second legal challenge the city would face over the project.

Frank Clair Stadium is to be renovated as part of a plan to redevelop Lansdowne Park. (OSEG)

The Lansdowne Park Conservancy said Wednesday it was seeking a judicial review over the process in which the city partnered with OSEG to conduct the $300-million renovation redevelopment.

Lansdowne deal opponents ready alternative plan

IN DEPTH: The fight over Lansdowne Park

In June, arguments concluded in another legal challenge over the deal launched by another group, Friends of Lansdowne.

Senior Justice Charles Hackland is expected to render a decision on the Friends of Lansdowne court challenge by the end of the summer as to whether the city broke municipal or provincial regulations by entering into a partnership with OSEG without seeking other bids.

Lansdowne Park Conservancy head John Martin has touted an alternative vision of the renovation of the park which keeps the entire site in public hands, preserves the existing buildings, replaces the wide expanse of asphalt with grass and trees and renovates the stadium at an estimated cost of $110 million.

Yeah, and we can wave bye-bye to any games in the next Womens WC if these stall tactics keep up....I agree with you that the main instigators of this need to throw in the towel....as you can see from the postings on the article they are back flooding the media with their pie in the sky holistic ideas

I think if these court challenges cause the deal to fall through, I would likely be inclined to make Glebites pay for their selfish gains by regularly organizing frustrated football and soccer fans into large, slow-moving caravans of vehicles that would drive through the Glebe with sound systems blaring, and perhaps parking to enjoy loud, game-less tailgate parties on quiet residential streets, starting with Holmwood. All without spending a cent at any local businesses, of course. Sure, it's petty and passive-agressive but so is what's happening in court right now.

Yes, let's keep Lansdowne the way it is; a money-sucking pit covered with asphalt and concrete. Who needs great events like the Womens World Cup, the Grey Cup, the FIFA U-20, or the proposed Heritage Classic? Pfft. Modernizing Lansdowne while making a world-class urban park and bringing more people into the Glebe without having to tear down classic buildings elsewhere in the neighbourhood? Perish the thought!

It's like these people want Lansdowne to go the way of LRT; nearly a decade wasted on trying to find the "perfect" plan, several restarts, nothing to show for it and millions of dollars wasted on repetitive surveys and reports.

I believe I predicted there would be another lawsuit some months ago.

This is a pathetic abuse of process. So much money is being wasted that could have been donated to a worthy charity that helps people in need. Have our priorities got this badly out of whack?

They don't want it to go any way. They talk of these "better proposals" (that don't actually exist) in an effort to keep Lansdowne the way it is. Actually, I'm sure they would also like to see the stadium torn down in order to remove any chance of another feasible proposal being put forward. Someone in an earlier post called these idiots passive aggressive, but I prefer to call them liars. Prove me wrong Glebites, if OSEG falls through I would like nothing more than them to prove me wrong, but I suspect that won't happen....

I'm not sure the city will bother with any of these "better proposals" for a while if this falls apart. After all the time and money working on this one, if the courts force them to abandon I can see them saying that they don't want to bother. And it would be hard to blame them.

The problem with Martin's lawsuit is that it would set a horrible precedent. If the city has to give "substantive consideration" to any project, then anyone who wants to block something (any project) can just hop in at the last minute with something forcing the city to stop what they are doing. So someone can intercede in, say light rail (which John Martin is against by the way - he has a "better" plan using BRT) and the city might have to hold off on digging the tunnel.

Sometimes, I really hate the people in this city.

I think we would have no choice but to abandon any significant renewal of Lansdowne Park simply because there will be no source of private funding towards another project. The city alone cannot do this. In any event, forcing consideration of another plan will leave such a bitter taste for so many people that any competition will be a tainted process. How can it not be?

I think that this new lawsuit will actually cover a lot of the same ground that the FOL one is. Sure there may be a new wrinkle to it but the substantial content will be the same.

If the city wins the FOL challenge I doubt that they will see a reason to delay the project further due to this new law suit(if it even materializes). They will be confident that they are on solid ground if the FOL fails.

If the FOL were to win the OSEG deal is finished and a second law suit would be irrelevant. The fact that Martin is talking about a second law suit leads me to think that he believes that FOL has failed in winning their challenge.

Oh God, CBC commenter and Glebe cheerleader 'Michele K' needs to go back to her university feminist march (Slutwalk?) and shut up with her stupid comments. Every day it's: Landsdowne = police state, this about the city acting in 'OUR' interests, etc, etc, etc....

Apparently she's disgusted with her tax dollars being spent on something she doesn't like, but has no qualms with spending everyone else's tax dollars on legal fees and cancellation penalties with nothing in the physical world to show for the expenditure. And she talks about 'We' and 'Our' to make herself sound like less of a selfish narcissist and more like a revolutionary, romantic hero.

...And I'm all for the Glebe parade previously spoken about.

This is sore-loser syndrome and NIMBYism mixed together to create a super-affliction. Cancellation is the only acceptable result for them, and they'll do anything to achieve that end. They accuse the city of playing dirty, but it's okay to do it in return to get what THEY want.
