A mix of both: family history of severe GI problems including colon cancer, crohn's, celiac disease, ulcerative colitis and ibs, and heart disease and diabetes. I've got other life long health problems that require vigilant monitoring of my diet - ignored in my youth.
I do occasionally eat sugar, but only if I bake the desert myself: if a recipe calls for 1 cup sugar I use 1/4 cup sugar.
There's no reason to go full keto - I eat basically a gluten free low acid/low fat Mediterranean diet. Fast food, or dare I say no restaurant in Canada, meets my requirements.
re: Tim Hortons: with its large scale operations, it really should develop several gluten free affordable donuts and a coffee alternative like Dandy Blend.
