GWCC put out RFQ for the new 800-1200 room hotel at the GWCC. Could even climb to as much as 2,000 rooms. Talks of interest in IHG for the RFQ.

As we had previously discussed that Georgia Tech found an interested party to anchor their development at 4th and West Peachtree / Spring, wanted to note that Georgia Tech also owns the parking lot at 5th and West Peachtree (you can see it in the map in this article where it is marked "BOR" : http://atlanta.curbed.com/archives/2015/...ges-ahead-with-new-techfocused-tower.php).

I heard a year or two ago that Tech was potentially planning a building that would host a very large auditorium for conferences or performances. Just a rumor, but a development rumor about potential infill!

ViewPoint shops

In case anyone is interested. Viewpoint just inked another retail client (http://janetteandco.com/) to go next to the Asian restaurant space they're currently building out, http://www.bantunoodles.com/home.php. It will be nice to have all that street space filled out there.

Home Depot wants 250,000 square feet in Marietta for IT center - Only if Taxpayers will finance it!!!

In today's C.C.O.B. (Classic Case of Bullsh!t) News - We have another corporate entity seeking taxpayer entitlements for expansion. This is getting redonkulous.

I have seen the founders of Home Depot on CNBC countless times bitchin and moaning about entitlements for things such as food stamps, unemployment benefits, social security, Obamacare...etc, but it seems like they are not above asking for handouts for their benefit. This is why the Top 1% will control 50% of all the wealth in the US by 2016 and the Middle Class is taking it on the chin.

I urge anybody who lives in Cobb County to call their representative and demand them to tell Home Depot - "HELL NO".

Quote:
Home Depot (NYSE: HD) discussed the plan at a Tuesday meeting of the Development Authority of Cobb County. Home Depot asked to borrow $200 million to help renovate a building at 2161 Newmarket Parkway, as well as two buildings the company owns in Cobb's Cumberland area where the company is headquartered, the MDJ says.
Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin said Home Depot will not sign a lease unless it can get the tax abatement from the development authority. Tumlin said while the deal is not yet done, things are looking good for the project.

"Atlantic House", aka the next skyhouse, aka 1163 West Peachtree, is set to have its groundbreaking ceremony next Friday.

An exact mix between the Atlantic in AS and the skyhouses.

Whatever, at least it's the tallest building we've seen in a while go up.

They need to drop the "house" thing, ugh.

They've somehow managed to "Novare-ize" the GLG Grand in that rendering, too. Yuck.

Exactly. How do you get one of Atlanta's most elegant representations of post modern architecture so WRONG in a rendering?

At least this is more Atlantic than Skyhouse and there will be a decent amount of retail space (which is fantastic). I think this will definitely be a great addition to the neighborhood. There's a lot of offices within walking distance, and MARTA is a few blocks away so let's hope for some new Midtown residents who won't rely totally on cars!

Overall, I'm honestly pretty pleased that this is coming to market. Now here's to hoping that that the Related Group will do something about the lot on the other side of West Peachtree..

Atlantic House

Criticism of Novare's other developments are completely justified. However, Atlantic House sets a new standard. The three obvious differences are: (1) the balconies are glass not cheap metal rails, (2) the use of precast concrete - not raw concrete and (3) and most importantly, the parking garage is not an after thought.

Agreed. It's not my favorite design, but it's definitely a step in the right direction. Further, the renderings of the retail space look solid, too.

My only gripe is that while the other Skyhouses are far enough from each other. This one is literally next door to the first Skyhouse. At least this design is an almost copypasta of the Skyhouse South with more floors and nicer materials. The Skyhouse Midtown roofline reminds me too much of a gymnasium or hanger roof.

There is only so much you can do with respect to architecture on mid-level condos. That is why so many people are critical of Miami's skyline/architecture because it is dominated by condos ("everything looks the same"). You truly only get really unique architecture on commercial skyscrapers.

Agreed. This is hardly unusual throughout the world. NYS upper Eastside is one identical after another - particularly the setbacks. In fact most European streets, Berlin, London, Paris are residential housing developments with repeating rooflines and facades. Heh, kinda like suburbia.

In the long run, it all begins to blend and fit together and make the cityscape that we like. It is only when you pull out each building separately that you begin to see minor, subtle differences.

It is difficult to be too critical of Novare. They are building; they don't dally around with promises and not deliver. And, I think they stir up the competition.

does anyone know the official height number for 1163 West Peachtree AKA Atlantic House? I know it's 32 stories, and ive heard it mentioned it will be the tallest thing to have built in a long while which certainly sounds right. but how tall?

the Buckhead Grand is 36 stories and 451' tall.. whereas Viewpoint is the same floor count and about 500' -- probably due to the retail component? i assume Atlantic House will be around 400 ft.?
