Not sure if we have a Lakeshore East thread outside of building "I", so I'll post this here in reference to building "O":

Quote:
Alderman Reilly Negotiates Major Public Infrastructure Improvements with As-of-Right Parcel O Project

The developers are not seeking any zoning relief, and plan to develop the site under the existing zoning rights which govern their property. As an as-of-right development, this project does not require Alderman Reilly's approval.

Geez looking at that Mandarin proposal again, glad we didn't get it. I'm sure whatever they've cooked up this time is sexier.

Funny story: I had dinner last night with the architect from my old firm, the actual AOR of the Hoxton, and who is a close friend of mine. I mentioned this exact thing to her, about the discussion in this forum about the water tower eyesore and she started laughing and said she and the GC felt validated by this criticism: because the client/Owner VE'd the screening

The Owner visited from London a week ago and realized the mistake they made once they saw the bare tower. Now, one of the ideas is just to own it (if they don't reintroduce the screens), and are talking to a few artists to create some artwork on or around the tower.

Moral of the story: no use blaming the architect when 99.9% of the time, it's the cheap-ass client making dumb decision, just to save money that is actually going to be well spent.

Which is exactly what I've been saying on here and elsewhere. Anybody who has ever done work where a client pays for it understands this. Some of these designs are worked on for a really long time. I have a friend who is an architect for SOM who was working for like a year on the top of a skyscraper for somewhere in China. Then a year later the client told him to completely take out what he was working on for a year and all of a sudden it looked like a normal tower all because the client all of a sudden decided they didn't want their tower to look unique.

Thanks, good to hear the real story and not surprising.

On the other hand, now I have an idea to market round water tower-esque cooling towers to architects...

Roosevelt Collection Apartment Tower

Curious if anyone’s seen more evidence that this one is finally moving forward....permits? Anything more than pushing dirt around started on site?

Definitely has a split personality, but I dig it. I hope this is a sign that Parcel O will finally be kicking off soon.

There's a permit for September 4th 2018 for 639 west Roosevelt for
"DIRECT DEVELOPER SERVICES PERMIT FOR ERECTION OF 3 STORY RETAIL BUILDING WITH BASEMENT LEVEL PARKING UPON PREVIOUSLY APPROVED FOUNDATIONS/BASEMENT ONLY PERMIT" and thats it for the last couple months, at least from whats available from the city data portal and it is listed as a 5 million dollar estimated job.

^ that's further west and also on the south side of Roosevelt (odd numbers are on south side of street in Chicago for east/west streets and on East side on North/South streets).
