Flewwelling Press posted that Tower Contracting the company that built The Wentworth reached out to them to have the banners made for 99 King. Flewelling described it in an Instagram post “With construction at the top of King on a brief pause”.

Timelines For ‘The Wellington’ Opening Pushed Back

“Construction on The Wellington is moving slower than planned but Saint John Non Profit Housing Inc is still moving forward with ambitious partnerships for the flagship building. February or early March of 2023 is the new timeline for “The Wellington” mixed-use building that’s under construction in uptown Saint John to be move-in ready.

Work on the six-storey, mixed-use building has begun to move inside as work on the 47 apartments within begins. Half of the units will be subsidized, others will be set at a market rate of $1,400 per month, all inclusive”.

The article mentions the plans:

“Negotiations have also begun for some of the ground floor retail space.

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but there's some interesting tax sale properties that have gone neglected for years up in October, including one with a good piece of vacant land. Something to watch re: future small scale development...

295-305 Charlotte Street (corner of Charlotte/St. James, beat up duplex and vacant lot near proposed school location)

259-261 Germain Street (corner of Germain/Queen, brick 4plex)

259 Duke Street (near Duke/Wentworth, vinyl triplex)

97 Hazen Street (halfway between St Joe's and Garden, brick, no idea if it's a SFH or duplex/triplex)

Assuming Charlotte is a teardown and new build, that's 8-10 refurb units that could come online by this time next year. They add up!

Grabbing this article from the 99 King thread as there are mentions of the uptown area in general.

Office space is being swapped for residential units which will bring the total # of units to around 110. That's a lot of people who will be living on the top of King. The ground floor will remain commercial and Percy is consistent that he wants a grocery store on this spot.

He mentions the new k-8 school that's coming and how that will attract families into the core.

This snippet caught my attention... "He has a hopeful vision for a vibrant Saint John core and is confident his developments both at King St. and whatever projects lie ahead in the future, can be a part of that."

... a clear hint Percy will not be finished after 99 King is complete.

Interesting because it was rumoured Envision Saint John had signed on as one of his tenants (thus the temporary rental of property for them in city market tower). It’s possible that is still happening and just not articulated in the article. The ground floor is huge so maybe Envision will be on one side of the ground floor. Glad there was no mention of reducing height to reduce cost.

Never heard of that site, will check out. Unfortunate this is happening, who will build 99 King I wonder with this situation?
