1. I am aware that there is not street called West North Temple.
2. The only place I expected that phrase to be used was in the title where all the words are capitalized, and if it was in the middle of a sentence without a number I would have written it west North Temple.
3. The other use seems to be do to an edit after I submitted the article and was supposed to refer to the 1940 West North Temple TRAX station.
4. As far as I can tell, everywhere else in the article it's just North Temple, and if it's not, I hope you'll forgive the error.
5. Since I drive on North Temple all the time, it was not necessary for me to consult Google Maps to find out where the street is or what it is called.
I hope we can move on from this controversy. Thanks for reading my articles. I hope you find them interesting and informative. I have fun doing them. Mike.

So basically this conversation has gone from 'proper way to say addresses' to an ongoing conversation of 'why we should stop arguing about the proper way to say addresses'. Cool, thanks again for the laughs as always I can't wait to see what you all spin up next! Maybe we can talk about the origin of proper addresses too! You know, so that way we can stay on topic

We weren't even discussing your article or article headline, but rather Isaac's post about your article.

I'm going to add my final note. I know it can be fun to argue about semantics but its a Pretty Conveiently Easy thing to parse out what he meant. West North Temple? Could it possibly indicate a nonexistent street? Or could he possibly be indicating that the projects are in the western end of North Temple? Only the aliens know. We will never discover for ourselves.

God help me

This whole address thing can actually be a problem if you use Siri to give you voice commands when driving. I've never been so confused the few times I've had to use it.

Lol!

It's true though!

Siri is the problem... it’s always her fault.

In South Jordan, 10600 S turns into South Jordan Parkway on the west side of I-15, but Google labels it like the other streets. They think the street is named Jordan Parkway, but they put an S in front of it. When "South" is part of the proper name, you don't abbreviate it. It's literally nuts.

And Google, for some reason, has started dropping the first cardinal direction on addresses. So 846 E 900 South becomes 846 900 South. There could be an 846 W 900 S, so we do need all of the cardinal directions in Salt Lake.

Anyone know anyone at Google that we can explain this to?
Agreed

It may be a hair neurotic but we Salt Lakers(Jazz fans not to be confused with regular Lakers) are a hair neurotic. Further the whole West North Temple thing is really f****** stupid. You wouldn't say West 45 degrees north 20 when describing longitude and latitude coordinates. You would say 45 degrees north 20 degrees west. Let's not let Google ruin a good thing. Usually Google gets things right but in this case they are embarrassingly really really embarrassingly wrong. There is a western North Temple but there is no West North Temple Street. Sure you travel West on North Temple Street but you never make a left onto West North Temple Street.

Hey Isaac! Any news on the 400s and west temple lot once owned by void? I think you were going to have some news on that soon.

Keep us posted.

Thanks

So Future Mayor is gone, gone I guess? Interesting, he joined June 14th of 2007 and last posted June 14th of 2017. Gave it a solid 10 years to the day.

The good old days. Back when the thread had lively conversation about ideas for downtown. When you could share a thought an people were excited to discuss it no matter how unlikely it was to even be built. When not everyone was jaded and the response to every new announcement wasn’t met with somber truth that it might never get built. Sigh

There's been plenty of conservative bashing in this thread the last few years, which keep my posting to a minimum because I'd rather not engage. I mostly just browse for new information or pictures--then I'm out.

I recently saw a rendering from a friend of a 20 story apartment building that would replace the La Porte project. The developer is well known in U, but can't say who. I don't have any further information other than they were looking at buying the land and tearing down the steel. The building looked good and fit very well into that space.

With the RDA purchasing the property, I don't know if they scraped the plans or are still hoping to move forward to acquire the property.

Also, I recently spoke with a market professional in our area that said there was at least one apartment building that he knew about in the works for downtown. It would both be steel construction, but he wouldn't say where or confirm that the La Porte property was it. He said that part of the problem with constructing these towers is that rents can't currently support costs. He said we would be reaching a tipping point soon where the added costs could be justified and going to steel would be an option. So, we'll have to see how things work out as all these units come online.

Just a side note, even when all the new construction comes online and if even half of the proposed apartments get built, we still won't be overbuilt. It seems crazy that there is that much demand, but there is such a shortage of housing that has gone on for years. Developers are doing their research and analyzing supply/demand and that is why nearly every week another multi-family development is announced.

He's lost on West North Temple Street trying to find his way back downtown.

Not true at all. In my experience, conservatives in America tend to value entrepreneurship and getting rid of things like rent control, unnecessary regulations, and zoning laws. All of these things tend to inhibit economic growth and mobility.

What conservatives don't like is giving away large amounts of tax money to fancy projects that can't otherwise finance themselves.

But zoning laws and regulations can be very useful. I'm glad that in our CBD that developers have to build above a certain height and can't have street setbacks. Also, many projects done by the government or with government assistance end up being very useful and\or profitable. Affordable housing projects, public transit, and civic buildings. I think the free market is a good thing, but not with a lack of restrictions or occasional boosts.
