This section of trucker's alley badly needs three-laning. Recently Ontario three-laned the KW-London 401 portion, and the drive is far, far better. Otherwise, motorists often get boxed in by aggressive semi drivers.

Another urban one. Hurricane highways, ha! This one has some shots of Columbus Drive and Topsail Road, two larger urban streets (by our standards).

This past week I have had great fun driving on highways in BC. Heading out from Edmonton on 16west we took the Fraser Cayon and highway 7 into Vancouver. Then on warm Saturday morning I joined 6500+ cyclists and rode up the Sea to Sky highway to whistler. After a short hop down to Seattle we headed back to Alberta using BC highway 3 with a stopin Osoyus and a bit of a wine tour. Then back on a spectacular drive along the southern reaches of BC to Fernie. I would have some photos but driving and viewing were more important. Tomorrow head north on Alberta highway 22 from Pincher Creek to Edmonton. If any of you get the chance with some time and some patients I recommend these routes.

I made another video yesterday evening.

This time of the Conception Bay Bypass (a four-lane, divided highway that links St. John's to the towns of Conception Bay South, which have now amalgamated to form the second-largest community in the province by population). It's the red circle on the map below.

I take the Manuels exit because I had to stop at Dominion (to pick up a chocolate cake for dinner at my better half's parents' place in Holyrood). Then we continue on the Conception Bay Highway (the old main route that the Bypass has replaced) to Holyrood and take the Trans Canada Highway back to St. John's (those are the dark, foggy portions of the video - and the area of the map circled in blue).

You don't get to see all of either highway, obviously, I only filmed certain sections.

A few things to point out: As usual, it was overcast and foggy in St. John's but sunny and beautiful in Conception Bay South. This is very often the case. And note all the traffic heading into St. John's on a Saturday evening. That's not even rush hour. The roads aren't enough to handle the population boom, that's for sure.

I took an hour off last years time, but still wy back of the fast guys. I was 5 hours 34min. The fast guys are 3hours42. How ever my downhill speed reached 80.2 kph. The last 20 km is the toughest part. But the last 40Ks you climb 600 meters.
But the best part the highway was more or less closed to all but cyclists for the morning.

Just south of Longview Home of Ian Tyson and The best Beef jerky.

Just north of Rocky Mountain House and about 150km SW of Edmonton.

by the way, I enjoyed seeing the Alberta photos. I feel as though Alberta is underrepresented in this forum. Particularly given all of the new roads that have been constructed in both Calgary and Edmonton.

Here is a cool pic posted by adrianroam95 from the Gateway Project in Metro Vancouver. Tonight the chaos begins as the old Lougheed to #1 East overpass is closed and the final segments of the new Lougheed to #1 eastbound fly over go into place.

How long is construction expected to take? and is financing all worked out for at least the roadway segments?

The construction will be very long : 2013 to 2020 if I remember.
Hence, as you saw in that video, it isnt only an interchange, it's 4 interchanges with 128km of roads including for sure merge and exit lanes and residential roads in the area. It's incredibly huge.

For the roadway segments, it's a prevision in the future, and it depend on the government's descisions for sure. But I think it's going that way.

This project is so good for Montreal. There is currently so much wasted space in the old Turcot lands -- and aside from the fact it is falling apart, the current Turcot interchange is pretty ugly. It probably looked pretty futuristic in the 1960s but it hasn't aged well.

Hopefully, Transports Quebec learns the folly of its past ways and takes better care of some of the new infrastructure that has been completed in the past decade.

Old video of Hwy 401 through Scarborough and Pickering taken in 1992. The express lanes still ended at Nielson Road when this was taken (though they were being extended).
