What does 'Employable Land' mean? Nothing comes up on Google.

Employment Land apparently in Winnipeg -- here is a report on it.

Generally speaking, Havixbeck wants it to be an office park rather than more commercial. She thinks it will relieve some of the traffic issues, which it may -- I'm no engineer.

Anybody ever been into a chain called Peavey Mart? They are a western Canada chain of what looks like a upscale Princess Auto.

I see that they are getting ready to open their first Winnipeg store in the old McDermid lumber outlet in front of the Princess Auto store / head office on Panet Road.

Never heard of them. According to their website, they were originally affiliated with the Minneapolis company, but are now headquartered in Red Deer.

Looks like a combination Princess Auto / Farm Supply store.

Its interesting that for their first Winnipeg store they decided to go head to head with Princess Auto.

I like that they have had a semi trailer billboard across from the Princess Auto parking lot saying coming soon for the last two months or so. I wonder if they will be competitive price wise with Princess on the name brand products?

Power Fist is not a name brand product. Mr. Talman is well aware of 'who's moving in across the street'. Doesn't appear worried.

I noticed they sell Husqvarna power saws - that is a very high end product. Princess normally deals with lower price points.

I don't really get Princess Auto. Do they sell autoparts? I never bought any from there.

Just a random assortment of obscure tools and such. Always seems like the flyers have some weird thing that nobody ever needs. But I guess they're doing well.

I like princess. I have bought quite a few things there over the years -- tools mostly. Some good quality, some very low. It's pretty hit and miss though. They don't always have what you need. But if they do, it's cheaper than Cdn Tire.

It makes a lot of sense to buy a lower price point of a special tool like at Princess if you don't use them that often. I have a lot of tools from there.

Many years ago they started out as a auto wrecker / junk yard. Years ago you could see all the junk when you went over the HWY 59 overpass north of Regent but they have cleaned it all up and gone to more of a house brand and seller of other peoples overstock.

I have seen Mastercraft and Sears goods for sale in their surplus department.

Princess manufactures a lot of their tools and equipment in China.

They manufacture hydraulic cylinders at a plant on site.

^Makes sense. I'm of the younger generation and have only seen them selling the tools. Does make sense they were an auto wrecker, that area seems to be a bit of a hub for old junk yards. Kind of ugly from the air.

I should have added that they started on Princess St hence the name Princess Auto. My father delivered mail to them when they were on Fort St where the Fountain Tire is now located. From Fort St. they moved to Panet Road.

I was just in Peavey Mart and its different. Sort of reminds me of the Kildonan Hardware store we had in EK when I was growing up. A little bit of everything in there.

They are doing a soft opening right now and will have a grand opening in May from what I heard one of staff telling a customer. They still have stock to put out and some of the product does not have price tags on them yet.

So what did you think? I was back there on Sunday to buy a screwdriver and they had stocked up the store a little more than I saw on Friday.

Something came up and I didn't go. Princess has a sale on tomorrow (tile cutter for $14.99!) so I'll check Peavey out then.
