Wow. That's funny. I just read about that on another site. What surprised me is that it's like, "Wow, after all this work that has been done, after all of the time they have spent searching for this guy, and god knows how much operating procedure was slowed down and crippled and destroyed even in the process, and all you can talk about is yourself. And how much it's hurt you." Yes, I am aware how "corrupt" the CIA is and "how flawed all of its policies are." There have been history books, actually published, that mostly just display all of the horrible deficiencies or negativities of the CIA. (I don't know if any of the writers of these expect the CIA to like them more for it. I'm sure the CIA is really impressed by all of the work they've put into it but would mostly be like, "thanks guys, for noticing all of our failures as a government body without telling us anything special. we appreciate it.") I'm sure even me mentioning this will get a lot of negative feedback, because everybody just loves to hate the CIA. But does anyone ever remotely acknowledge that the CIA has been the only one actually doing the work here???

And in the end, all the writers of that article have done recently is write an opinion piece about why finding bin laden has just given themselves a reason to think about why they should feel sorry for themselves.

The (article above) is a bit sad to think about. It would have been nice if they'd gotten bin Laden and had that be a stepping-stone on to create a better future, or take down terrorism, etc., instead of focusing all this time on the negative side. There's all this "what could have been" and "what really ought to be happening now," like one more unhappy event in a chain of unhappy events. Maybe one night of celebration, but it would have been nice to have just one reason to be able to look forward to the future, wouldn't have been? Only in dreams, I suppose.

Initially, I thought they were going to relocate the crane somewhere else, to make room so that the transit hall mezzanine construction will continue.

Could some kind member post a clear pic of the memorial cladding? There was some discussion about it a few pages back as I recall. Now that it's actually up it would be nice to see it more clearly.

Nice link. It seems like they got the cladding on pretty quick.

^^^The white is simply protective film, in a couple shots of the panels, the material is peeling off, exposing the silver panels behind it.

I believe the blue film is to protect the surface of the reflective glass and metal facade to prevent scratches, stains, marks etc. (Kinda like the transparent film that you peel off a new computer or TV screen.)

I would have picked a different kind of tree - preferably one with a powerful and comforting smell, and that doesn't stop growing for centuries. Just a thought: Could redwoods survive a Northeastern winter with diligent care?

You would have to actually attempt this for an answer. Ask the growth handlers how it might be possible, for example. Trees don't talk.

No, absolutely not. It's not the cold that would bother them, it's the lack of rainfall that they need...plus their roots would go waaay to deep to have them atop the museum. Their considerable weight makes it totally unfeasible too...redwoods only live in that small sliver of the world because their micro climate is just perfect enough for them to survive. Redwoods are iconic for California...why on Earth would you put them in NYC??
