Wanda Vista still a go, developer says: The shockwaves shaking the once-surging Chinese economy aren't throwing a roadblock in the path of the planned Wanda Vista Tower, the hotel-condominium skyscraper that would be Chicago's third tallest building, the project's developer told me last week.

The three-tiered, 1,186-foot riverfront skyscraper is backed by the Wanda Group, a leading Chinese real estate developer, and Chicago's Magellan Development Group. It would be built in the 300 block of East Wacker Drive alongside a multilevel viaduct. Studio Gang Architects are the designers.

"We have had no indication that it's anything but a go," said Jim Loewenberg, co-chief executive officer of Magellan Development. The company plans to apply for a building permit in June and hopes to start construction in late summer or early fall.

^^^ yeah it would make zero sense for them to abandon any projects in the US or Canada right now... If things in China get bad enough, our current construction boom may turn out to be the only stable investment that Wanda has.

Field Blvd where this tower will be built is being torn up this week and is closed until Monday. Probably utility work in adavance of construction..

They are replacing all the expansion joints and servicing the spawling concrete and rusting metal.

Thanks, wasn't sure if it was just some upkeep like you said or if it was something in relation to the drive-thru aspect of Wanda Vista

The planned total gross floor area of the Chicago Project is approximately 176,000 sq.m.. It is
located in the heart of Chicago, adjacent to Millennium Park and Chicago CBD. Many of the
well-known destinations are within walking distance of the project, such as the Theatre District,
Museum Campus and Michigan Avenue. This is the last unbuilt site within the Lakeshore East
area with excellent geographic location. The project is expected to be developed into a 350-meter,
93-story five-star hotel (with estimated 193 rooms) and high-end condominiums, which will be
Chicago’s third highest building upon completion and a new landmark in Chicago. Pre-sale of
high-end condominiums portion commenced in September 2015, and 130 units were pre-sold
up to the end of 2015. The Chicago Project is expected to obtain the planning approvals and
complete settlement in the first half of 2016, and commence construction work in July 2016. The
development of this project is expected to be completed in 2020.
