Haven't missed one yet, and I'll be there for sure. Anything under a $100 ticket is worth my 15 minute walk from downtown.

I like it.
Simple design, which would keep the cost down. One end open for potential expansion in the future (or for a Grey Cup).
Reminds me of the Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton where the Tiger Cats play.

After reading more articles, it says that this new stadium will only have 12,000 permanent seats with temporary seating brought in for CFL games.
Back in 2011, after Moncton Stadium (10,000 permanent seats) had successfully hosted two Touchdown Atlantic games with 20,000+ at each game, the CFL stated that Moncton would only be considered for a team if their stadium had "a minimum of 25,000 permanent seats".
The Schooners ownership group has stated that they will be responsible for eventually adding 10,000 more permanent seats and 4,000 temporary ones for a 26,000 total... but that would only be completed within 3 - 10 years after opening kick-off.
I don't recall Moncton being given that flexibility.

Moncton did it's job in testing the waters, hosting games and pressuring Halifax to build it's own stadium. I'm sure if the current ownership group was adamant on owning a team in Moncton, we'd have been given a similar deal.

No this is incorrect. There will be 22,000 permanent seats with 4,000 temporary seats in the end zone (which could be expanded for the grey cup).

The extra 10,000 permanent will be paid for by the Schooner's and are the more basic (but permanent) structure on the left hand side of this render:

The design is still eerily like that of the Moncton Stadium, only larger (a bleacher type structure on one side and a more impressive concrete construction grandstand on the other side).

A little disappointing, but Halifax regional council seems pretty intransigent about spending taxpayers money on this project.

The Moncton stadium also has a track.

It's a business deal. What works for the CFL depends on the ownership group and the market. Halifax is much larger than Moncton and there probably isn't enough demand to have teams in both cities so Moncton was always unlikely. Halifax is even a bit of a long shot although the current proposal seems decent. Much better odds than a plan that involves asking the city or province to fork over $200-300M.

The track ruins the football/soccer fan experience. That is a stadium designed for track and field.

It's also very bare bones with a $17 million price tag.

The Moncton Stadium may get used for the 1st or maybe even 2nd season of the Atlantic Schooners. I hope that if this does happen the track & field stadium does not hurt attendance so that this franchise can get off to a good start before they start play in their permanent home of Halifax.

I wouldn't say that the track "ruins" the football/soccer experience for the fans. I think that's rather harsh

I attended the Touchdown Atlantic games, and the Women's World Cup soccer games at the Moncton Stadium and I did not feel shortchanged whatsoever........

I will not apologize for the track at the Moncton Stadium. It was built after all as a track & field stadium in order to host the World Junior Track & Field Championships. It performed admirably in that regard.

I would also not call it "bare bones". That's an unfair aspersion. Given the reasons why the stadium was built, and the fact that no permanent tenant was planned (beyond university teams), I think the design is quite appropriate.

Looks pretty good to me.

If you take off the Moncton Kool-aid drinkers goggles , you'll see that the larger grandstand is approximately 100 feet or 30 metres from a 59 metres wide CFL field (75 feet away from the soccer field).

I think Moncton should be proud if they get the chance to host the Atlantic Schooner's for a season or two.

The stadium is a good fit for Moncton and New Brunswick.

There's no denying that tracks in stadiums lessen the ambiance and closeness of stands for soccer/football. Obviously some stadiums need tracks to be viable but they're not the best for other sports.

Look, why don't we call it a draw.

If Halifax ever builds a football stadium, then you can claim the best football stadium in Atlantic Canada.

Moncton will retain the rights for the best track & field stadium in the region.

Fair enough??

Sounds good. If the Commonwealth games stadium had been built in Halifax we may have been stuck with a track and field stadium for a cfl stadium as well just like Edmonton.

P.S. Go Moose!
