Also, a bunch of retail has been leased in downtown over the last 2 months. Where did you hear about the Chapman having the Korean BBQ?

this is dated from march of this yr. However, with so many changes going on in this post covid economy, it's hard knowing exactly what's the latest or what's yesterday's news.

With innovation always at the forefront, Stone continues to shape the culinary landscape of Los Angeles—a city that never seems to run out of ideas when it comes to food. And just when we think everything has already been done, Stone proves otherwise. “In about a year, we’re opening another restaurant in downtown LA,” he says. And while he won’t spill the details just yet (we’re sworn to secrecy, but you can expect an expansive rooftop), you can bet your pretty little palate that it’ll be a crowd-pleaser.

btw, although many vids of ppl walking through dtla often show quiet sidewalks, I don't mind that as much as I did before. LA....dtla....has its own vibe. Personally, I like that tone more than what's going on in certain other cities, one in particular that has become way too tagged & is also unbelievably overpriced.

I just love how swift Onni is, they play no games with their projects. Get it done and get it done now. If they used a different architect with more variety, I wouldn't care if they bought up everything along the river to give us the much-needed density we need.

Never mind…I see where it’s going. I didn’t realize they leased that spot.

For those who don’t live in DTLA

DTLA has some quiet moments as far as street activity. But tbh, every city does. I’ve lived in NYC and San Fran. There are certain areas of the city that are quiet. Whatever vids you see where there’s not much activity, are people not simply walking in the areas that are active.

I've noticed sidewalk scaffolding...or what in NYC is known as a construction shed...has been around the park fifth apt tower across from Pershing sq for several wks. That bldg was completed a few yrs ago, so it's not like it's still under active construction.

https://youtu.be/Gfc25nfeiIs?t=353

btw, construction sheds have become a common sight in america's largest city....due to a law that requires property owners have to protect ppl from pieces of a bldg's facade falling down. Would be surprising if the park fifth bldg has similar issues with its facade.

The sooner some people understand this, the better. Every street/alley/sidewalk isn't going to be packed full of people like a sim city simulation, where every corner of downtown has a thousand people walking around all the time.

Same with crime. A metro with 14 million people will for sure have crime regardless of policies. The way some people make it seem like, LA is currently in the opening scene of the movie Demolition Man (ironically LA) .

The city can do better to address the issues overall but LA in comparison to itself in 1992 when the city saw 590 murders in just one month (currently tracking on average 20 a month for 2022), Stagnant growth and a downtown that barely existed......SOME people need to chilllll

The glass now wraps along the 8th street side as well. High quality glass actually so the garage wont be discernable from the street

Are you referencing 8th and Figueroa?

Agreed that they somehow made the podium actually look decent (though I believe they had their hand forced by the city planning commission, thankfully).

In person, the glass does look great, which to me is a pleasant surprise as I didn't have the highest of hopes for that aspect which personal can make or brake a design aesthetically.

The next step of DTLA is when it'll be viable to actually wrap the podiums with residential or office, build parking underground with limited parking.

There was an update today on Urbanize LA.

Glass exterior climbs at 8th & Figueroa in DTLA
The 42-story apartment tower is being built by Mitsui Fudosan America
JULY 14, 2022, 6:30AMSTEVEN SHARP

At the intersection of 8th and Figueroa Streets in Downtown Los Angeles, the glass skin of a new high-rise apartment tower Mitsui Fudosan America is beginning to take shape.

Located on the longtime site of a surface parking lot, the finished product will consist of a 42-story building featuring 438 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above podium parking and approximately 7,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

Interesting in that second pic, is basically the right angle not to see the Beaudry. It’s height is in between the very first and second setback at the top of the other building. You would think you would see it…but not from that angle and distance.
