^^^ I actually never paid that close attention to the tower at night to notice that the tower cranes had lights on them. As far as why they would be turned off... maybe to save electricity and help save the planet? lol. They don't use the tower cranes at night anyway so it's not like there's any reason whatsoever to keep them lit up... except maybe so airplanes won't run into it, but then again no airplane should be anywhere near that close to the site.

The cranes have lights in the vertical mast you can see in the last posted picture from 7 WTC. Red aviation lights on top that you can't see in that picture. I think the bright lights that are off now are night work lights for the top of the building. The cranes look to be 250' or 300' tall.

I like the shape of this tower a lot, but I wish they built it like NYSE Tower instead (but without the spire). Its weird because from some angles the building looks like a rectangle, from others a headless pyramid, whereas NYSE always looks skinnier toward the top.

1,792' to the roof

The symbolic heights of 1 WTC are 1368' and 1776'. What is the 1792' to the roof mean?

That is for NYSE Tower, if they shaved off a few stories it could have been 1776

Too bad it wasn't 1,776 meters

World Trade Center Models

Hey guys, I'm new, and this is my first post.

I work for a graphics design firm that specializes in skyscraper architecture. On our recent project, our team was prompted to create a 3D model representing the future New York Skyline for the banner of our new website and animated-introduction video.

We did the "divide and conquer" method, where certain people were in charge of a different task, and combining the results once finished. Our group's job was to develop the New World Trade Center Site on AutoCAD. I was in charge of the actual modeling and texturing, while my "teammates" completed the animation.

I saved a copy of the work and converted it into a Google SketchUp File, and took some screenshots of our work:

Our model were imported into Google Earth with impressive results:

And my personal favorite, the Statue of Liberty with the World Trade Center in the background. To me, it sumbolizes double freedom and the American Spirit.

Hope you like them! In a week, the entire team will combine all of our models into a master New York Skyline, and I will post the screenshots of the final finished project!

Those models look a lot better than mine:

I made this as part of a first-person perspective game, but I cancelled it. On the right is NYSE Tower, probably the inspiration for 1 WTC?

That's cool though. I can see it hanging on a wall... about 4 feet wide.

"New York City already has plenty of great restaurants," Ward said.

Ohh well, I guess America dosen't think big anymore. What a jerk.
