What piece of land is this on specifically? Is this that old weird brick structure right at the corner, or is it in the greenspace a bit further south, or both?

Yes, that greenspace is a corporate plaza that is completely privately owned and maintained.

Also, my opinion is that, while lackluster architecture to say the least, the site plan of the dual-branded hotel is so incredibly compact that I can't help but like the project. Fitting a few hundred rooms on a site that's south of an acre is New-York level density. Let's hope this one is similarly compact.

I completely agree with this. For the dual-branded hotel being at 10th and the connector, I'm very pleased with the ground level. As long as they get the ground floor right on this new one, given that it's across from MARTA, I'll be happy. There are enough icons around it so it doesn't need to stand out.

EIGHT levels of parking for 152 rooms??? That seems a little out of control.

The Gordon School in East Atlanta is finally being demolished to make way for the proposed apartment complex (developed by Trammell Crow, I believe). A bulldozer is on site and about half of the building is gone.

Dwight Bell Eyes Multifamily Near Crest Lawn Memorial

This sounds interesting. (My apologies if this has already been posted).

Quote:
Actually, Cannon Equities planned West Midtown project is going to be a lot larger than we initially reported. Cannon Equities' Dwight Bell sent us info on what he's calling The Quarter-Upper West Side, a planned mixed-use project that will consist of more than 800 residential units, including a 386-unit apartment complex at 2108 Bolton Dr, just north of Crest Lawn Memorial Park, and a collection of townhouses, flats and city homes (the latter being sold as parcels to other developers). Dwight says there'll be boutique shops and restaurants in a town square setting overlooking a park, encompassing 46k SF of space. "The site is one of the largest urban infill sites in the City and lends itself to a planned destination project," he says. Previous Atlanta projects for Cannon Equities include Buckhead luxury Bellingrath Town Residences.

Doraville GM plant demolition pix( pictures for the purists)

Doraville’s 165-acre General Motors plant -- a proposed “city within a city” -- began in earnest with demolition on Jan. 9, 2015.

Almost kind of sad to see the demolition. That was the life blood of many a family back in its heyday.

Yes... buy land and create greenspace that can't be sold to developers.

Nice! Hopefully that means 1163 West Peachtree will get started soon.

Does anyone know how tall 1163 W. Peachtree is supposed to be? The devmap info for the property seems out of date. Thanks.

I believe 32 stories, and from the rendering it appears to be a little more than half the height of One Atlantic Center, so maybe about 420 feet tall, give or take 50 feet. I could be wrong on the height, i just eyeballed it.

Speaking of 1163 West Peachtree... I think the "Market" portion would be a great location for an Eataly. Weren't they considering Buckhead Atlanta but then decided it wasn't a good fit?

Eataly

In that same area I noticed the tower crane for 60 11th is up. That project seems to be moving quickly. Crescent sure will look different once its done... the absence of that parking lot has already made a big difference.

The best part is that none of those projects are on Peachtree. It's starting to feel like there's a reason to wander around Midtown instead of just going up and down one street.

Edit: From looking at the property records, the outlined area is the only part of that property owned by North Point Hospitality. I don't know if a hotel can even fit on that parcel alone so maybe they have a deal with Hines who owns the adjacent greenspace, or Marta who owns the parcel behind the brick building.

I'm quoting this from another thread because if it's correct it means I was wrong about the park going away... of course I guess it's only a matter of time anyway. If all the planned projects on that stretch of West Peachtree are actually built then it's going to add a nice bit of density. Hopefully the northern part of Spring will be next!
