I drove past Renelle today. I thought the white panels were aluminum, I didn't realize they are glass. It actually looks really sharp in person.

I love how this new hotel respects and almost integrates the design of that sexy little number next door.

Also I get the feeling GEMS is kind of a joke of an organization. Aren't they Dubai based? Perhaps we are seeing a little of the emerging markets blues shining through here. Having a rough go of getting their hands on USD perhaps?

I love me some growth following transit lines, particularly when that line leads directly to investments of mine! This is what all transit corridors in Chicago should look like. There is plenty of room for TOD even along the Pink Line, there's even lots zoned -3 as of right. Same goes for the Green Line, that entire route should be nothing but 3-10 story buildings.

Someone was complaining a while ago that they were going to leave the party wall exposed, but that's kinda the point. This building would disappear into the streetscape if it's defining feature and main facade, a 15 story facebrick party wall, were obscured. It's excellent that they respected that design enough to leave the monolith exposed. It's really quite nice 70's facebrick too so it's handsome in much the same way as a lot of MCM to brutalist monumentalism is.

I love (by that I mean hate) going past new townhouse complexes that back up to the elevated train tracks along the Blue Line/Milwaukee Ave.
