For anyone, but mostly skyscraper neophytes and n00bs, looking for a brief primer on the history of skyscraper construction, the video below is very well made:

Race for the Skies: Chicago vs. New York

It frames today's skyscraper discipline as having stemmed largely from the upward competition by Chicago and New York that started in the late 19th century. It's 11 minutes long and a nice break from your workday.

Toyoko Hotel in Clinton received a permit for its crane yesterday.

Also, 3 condos at No. 9 Walton sold for over $5 M this week alone, with another on Friday. 2 of those 4 sold for over $6.1M each. I could be wrong but I don't think these were resales. One of them over $6M was not. I assume that marketing wise, No. 9 Walton was including the pending ones in their count. Maybe they still have that 1 left, not sure, but this building sold very well...

All that money will likely land squarely in the escrow account that makes draw payments to Power Construction as they get moving on OCS

It's more than 49, they are missing several projects on there. Curbed isn't doing the best at keeping it updated...

Does anyone know any details on this one? Is there a timeline? I've seen this billboard here for at least 6 months now and no news surrounding it.

^ We need a BVictor style visit to the sales center to gauge number of units sold.

Of course, that was BVictor in the old days. We need a young whipper snapper to take over that job...

According to RedFin, there's been 2 pending sales at 312 W Huron. One unit at $2.75M and another at $2.985M. Also, maybe not high rise, but close? Anyway 360 W Erie has 20 pending sales - all over $1M. I think that building has 38 total units.

Well the land at the corner of Huron and Sedgwick is for sale anyway. This was where that not particularly attractive 10 story Pappageorge building was proposed.

I think the answer, as with online hotel room bookings, will always be "only a few left." No one wants to be the sixth—out of 200 needed for construction financing—to put down a deposit. Undoubtedly The Spire told BVictor they were 80 percent sold.

From my vantage point, I can not tell for sure, but it looks like a construction crain is going up for the building next to the new Mormon church on Clark st.
