I'm getting the impression that Edmonton folk are a bit upset they weren't chosen.

It sounds like Vancouver is going to get 6 matches, and Edmonton to YVR is only an hour and a half. A trip to Vancouver to watch World Cup matches would be epic.

It's kinda like we got Edmonton's hopes up then we re-entered our bid and got our spot back. Would Edmonton be likely to get games if BC never pulled out initially?
They did a good job hosting the Iceteca game and have a better stadium than Toronto.

Seems like bullcrap to me Edmonton gets shunned.
Should have been given 3 games based on past history and a facility like Commonwealth.
Mexico went with 3 hosts.

Another city adds a minimum of $200 million to the budget.

I'm not sure Montreal would have gotten any matches either.

With a commitment to renovate the Big O,
Montreal would have gotten games for sure.

Be careful to what you wish for, feed the Big O enough and it will turn into a black hole and swallow Montreal up!

LOL Money is a universal issue whether it's the cost of having three host cities and/or the top two cities balking at splitting the number of games with a third cities for the same pricetag.

BC Place is a renovated architectural statement surrounded by futuristic towers. That's not Commonwealth. It's as utilitarian as BMO Field with a boring setting. It's just bigger and this is a mens world cup.

Having been to Grey Cups at both BMO (2016) and Commonwealth (2018) I can say that Commonwealth is on a completely different (i.e. higher) level than BMO. It’s more than just “bigger”, and doesn’t feel like it was built on the cheap like BMO.
Agreed that BC Place will be the showpiece.

The BC Government says the games in Vancouver will cost about $260M. We'll see what the final budget is (hopefully), and who actually foots the bill.

Rumours of France's Ligue 1 club Clermont Foot 63 (aka Clermont) being in talks (for several months) with CF Montreal's Zachary Brault-Guillard.

More CPL transfer news as the CPL is starting to have some of their prospects sign abroad.

Victor Loturi (21) of Calgary's Cavalry FC has signed with Ross County of the Scottish Premier League (joining fellow Canadians Harry and Ben Paton)

Is it just because of a lack of exposure that BMO feels perfectly fine to me and not "cheap"? I've only been to BMO (in all it's various phases), THF, TD place once, and Ivor Wynne once. Plus a couple Canadian universities.

Cheap or not, BMO gives fans a great view of the action.

So does McMahon in Calgary but I wouldn't want it being a representative for Canada either.

BMO Field reminds me of a certain number of late-model medium-sized soccer stadiums in Europe. Though not any that I'd describe as "iconic".

Commonwealth Stadium has a bit of classical grandeur about it.

I'd say the only other stadium that has that in Canada is the Big O.

BC Place is beautiful but classical grandeur is not its style.
