I'd love to see proof of that.

On page 8 of the Capital Illumination Plan, 2017-2027 from the NCC it actually says:

Lack of shared tools for coordination among the various stakeholders Close collaboration is critical to create a unique nighttime identity for the Capital. Despite this, the NCC, City of Ottawa, Ville de Gatineau, and other key public and private stakeholders involved in developing the Capital core area have no shared tools for encouraging coordinated illumination

That pretty much tells me everyone has their own jurisdiction and they dont coordinate anything

Well there you have it! I'm wrong, as is often the case I thought I read in the capital illumination plan that the NCC dictated how any structure could be lit in the NCR.

It could very well be that the NCC has an illumination plan, but doesn’t have the authority to enforce it, and doesn’t have the money to fund it.

Fun fact. They have a dedicated person on a boat to fish out fallen workers at all times.

I walked by on the Gatineau side.

The approach from the pathway to the bridge looks 75% done, it looks like they are just need to put some asphalt.

Is there still a legal fiction that the railway isn't abandoned?

Here is Capital Railway's three year plan for 2022-2024, the federally mandated document that lists out any intentions to discontinue any lines. The "Ottawa River Line" is still being retained.

I am assuming that is why they are "temporarily" building on top of the rails, instead of removing them.

Good Day.

That, and to avoid the legalities of that antlered ungulate 'company'. Per se, a smart choice.

The photos look good.

and two long term side benefits :
- the maintenance will be somewhat better
- the base for the island passing siding has been built.

We can all hope to EnJoy it soon !

Thanks for the pictures! Can't wait for the opening, it will be a game changer for cyclist especially with basically all the bridges being under repair at the same time right now

City hopeful Chief William Commanda multi-purpose bridge will open this summer
The $22.6-million project has faced a number of delays including supply chain issues and a shortage of construction workers.

Staff Reporter, Ottawa Citizen
Published Jul 06, 2023 • Last updated 1 hour ago • 2 minute read

While glitches have caused delays, the City of Ottawa says it intends to open the new Chief William Commanda Bridge this summer.

“The City appreciates that residents are anxiously awaiting the opening of this exciting active transportation project,” said Carina Duclos, director of infrastructure projects for the city.

“Work on the railings, and other safety measures, are taking longer to finalize than initially expected. We are committed to ensuring public safety prior to opening the bridge and as such, we are unable to provide an exact opening date at this time and continue to prepare for a summer opening.”

“We appreciate the patience from residents as staff work closely with the contracted team to ensure the Chief William Commanda Bridge meets all safety standards and is ready to accommodate residents and visitors.”

Officials said last fall they were hoping for a spring opening for the former rail bridge being converted to a multipurpose pathway linking Ottawa and Gatineau.

At a formal dedication ceremony last year, former mayor Jim Watson was joined by Ottawa Centre MP Yasir Naqvi and a host of Indigenous leaders and elders to celebrate the naming of the former rail bridge.

The $22.6-million project, financed by the city with the help of $8.6 million from the federal government, has faced a number of delays including supply chain issues and a shortage of construction workers.

Previously known as the Prince of Wales Bridge, it has been renamed for legendary Algonquin Chief Commanda.

“As a spiritual leader, a promoter of environmental stewardship and a great bridge builder between our nations, Chief William Commanda was loved and respected by all,” said Watson in one of his last acts as mayor.

Commanda, who died in August 2011 at the age of 97, spent decades building bridges between Indigenous peoples and the larger Canadian population. He called for forgiveness and reconciliation despite facing hardship and racism in his own life.

When do we get the first complaints about that path intersection?
