That is showing why I am a fan of Ontario's highways.

Top notch pavement + Wide Highways ... compared to Crappy and narrow ones in my province.

Something like 450,000 AADT in it's busiest segment near Highway 400. It swells to 550,000 in the summertime (SADT)

Highway 427 is also ridiculously busy, compatible to LA's busiest freeways. That road is in much poorer condition compared to the 401 but is getting a facelift, but that won't fix it's over capacity and defunct interchanges.

It remind me of some highways we have in Montreal.

Ya the 427 was in pretty rough shape:

But it's getting a facelift:

(Both pics from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_Highway_427)

The 401/427 interchange remains a major choke point. Not enough 401 lanes pass underneath and the connections from the 427 are tight, left exits. It also has very odd geometry which will make any future improvements expensive.

The first time I drove to Montreal, I was shocked by the state of your highways in Quebec. I'm not sure why your freeways are in such bad shape, but something must be done to bring them up to North American standards. You have such an amazing province and culture, your infrastructure should reflect that.

It's already being done, even if most people won't/don't want to notice. The overall condition of the highway system in Quebec improved a lot over the last 5 years.

For all of Charest's faults, he was definitely excellent for our road infrastructure.

-Autoroute 25 Bridge
-Autoroute 30 completion
-Autoroute 35 twinning from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu to Vermont border
-Autoroute 50 completion
-Autoroute 85 twinning from Rivière-du-Loup to New Brunswick border

It's not a real highway actually, but the Route 175 from Quebec city to saguenay is one of the best improvement I've ever seen in that province in while ! ... Some stretches turned into a 100 km/h speed limit wich is pretty good when peoples were already driving 120 before.

Also :

-A20 East to Rimouski
-A73 South to St-Georges
-La tuque bypass
-Lac Mégantic bypass
-Labelle bypass
-Riviere-rouge bypass

And some other very important updates like bridges and other new roads.

I agree, Quebec's roads have drastically improved over the past five years. I remember driving to Montreal in 2008, and the A-20 from the Ontario border to the 540 was almost not even drivable the pavement condition was so bad. Today, I think its all been resurfaced.

Quebec still has its idiosyncrasies though, for new interchanges, the ramps between the A-730 and the 30 as well as the new flyover from A-15 South to A-640 East are very sharp. I don't think they would be as sharp in other provinces.

As someone who drives from Ontario to NB most years, I would also agree that there's been a marked improvement in Quebec's highways over the last five years. It's getting there.

I think people also forget how the poor condition of many of Ontario's highways during the late 90s and early 2000s. I remember crossing from New York state to the QEW in 2001 and it was in terrible condition.
