Methodist plans 250 million dollar expansion of Medical Center hospitals
The expansion will include a nine story parking garage

Quote:
Methodist Healthcare expects to spend about $250 million to expand two of its facilities — Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital.

Both hospitals are located in the South Texas Medical Center. Work on the project will begin next year.

Methodist officials say the hospital system will gain more than 445,000 additional square feet of space as a result of the expansion, which was necessitated by increasing demand for services in the region.

One of the key elements of the planned expansion is a new, six-story patient-care tower and new entrance for Methodist Children’s Hospital.

The expansion plan also includes a new, nine-story parking garage that will provide patient access to surgical suites.

More density to the medical center. Hopefully we can get some mixed use towers proposals in the next 5 years or so.

That's fantastic to see. How is Methodist Stone Oak doing? Think that hospital will see an expansion in the near future?

Looks like the east side is getting some love with a 378 unit development. ( no renderings yet)

Turner Busby has chosen for its first apartment complex land at Loop 410 and W.W. White Road on the city’s East Side

This development is located in an area that hasn't seen much development so this will be a great addition even if it's just a suburban apartment complex.

It looks like it might have a small amount of hope left. According to this article, the City Council can override the planning and zoning commissions ruling.

The proposal now moves to the City Council, which can accept the commission's decision or overrule it.

Are they even going to profit on this? I love how there are signs across the street that says no high-rise in Alamo Heights. But it's like, it was seriously only a few stories. Oh AH...

I know.

I wanted to go get some duck tape and cover up "high" and write "low" on all the signs they put up.

Ha ha I think that's a great idea. That building looks so good and blends in really well. I would love something like that in my neighborhood. It just makes a nice place even nicer.

The fact that it got denied, is actually pretty sad.

I just hope people have a change of attitude before its too late. At the rate that Lower Broadway is developing, the older style strip centers in AH might hollow out, making it not so visually appealing to outsiders; perhaps then they might get it.

Even that article calls it a mid rise. Really? 55 feet is now considered a mid rise? There are streets with ROW bigger than that. I can't at the vocabulary that gets thrown around my the media regarding this project.

But thank goodness the permit was OK'd.

Great news for the strip of N Main but not a great development for density with all those parking lots.

The new WellMed building will be located off of McCullough Ave. It's basically going to be built in the parking lot of their current building on McCullough.
