Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 14
The Kerala Chief Minister, Mr V. S. Achuthanandan, handed over to Mr N. Chandrasekaran, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a State Government order sanctioning allotment of
82 acres for setting up the proposed training and development campus in Technocity here.
TCS plans to set up a modern training centre,
slated to be the country's biggest, which, when complete, would accommodate over 15,000 professionals at a time. The land will be allotted on a 90-year lease. Construction of both the development centre and the new training campus should commence within 12 months of allotment of land.
IT Kerala has had a long association with TCS. In 1994, the company had bought two acres of land to set up a corporate training facility, which was later expanded by acquiring 12 more acres.
In 2005, the company took over another 26 acres for the proposed software development centre, work on which is expected to begin in a year's time. When fully functional, the centre is expected to employ about 5,000 technical professionals.
“We are delighted to expand our presence significantly in this city, where a primary training centre has been in existence since 1997,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ajay Kumar, Principal Secretary-IT, Kerala, said that this project would put Thiruvananthapuram on the global IT map and have a positive impact on the economy of the State.
