How can it really be sustainable if the low wage workers must commute from outside of Serenbe. And why don't they even bother to throw in a token black, or Indian, or any other race on their website photos.

It seems just as fake to me as Truman Show or Ave Maria, Florida.
Why don't you drive down there, check it out for yourself and interview the residents and workers? Do a racial count of the folks you see, and ask them about their salaries.

Serenbe is a total jewel, whether it meets your racial breakdown or not. I suppose you would prefer more soulless, mindless, clear-cut suburban crap had been built there instead.

It's miles behind Midtown.
If I'm not mistaken all this stuff will have to comply with the SPI-9 guidelines, which should help a lot with walkability. It would be nice if they can bring in the west side of Roswell road.

1125 will probably be a while but its part of 12th and midtown so its probably going to happen 1138 "yoo on peachtree" is doubtful at best that developer has a long history of proposed buildings that never get funding.

Alright thanks, it seems like it's been dead silent on both for almost a year now

Didn't someone say something about Mayor Kasim Reed making an announcement or something about Underground Atlanta before Dec. 1st? Did that announcement happen?

According to the barista at the 7th and Peachtree Starbucks, they will be not moving into Viewpoint this year. Looks like we have a bit of a wait ...

That and One Museum Place are in my "believe it when I see it" bucket. Other than the Atlantic, condo projects just can't seem to get going right now.

Starbucks is moving even if they don't build the condos, which I feel pretty confident is going to happen. Starbucks is just waiting on final touches/issues to be resolved with the new space in Viewpoint.

Happy Holiday's all.

We are hearing that lenders are increasingly interested in condos-- a sea-change from just a few months ago--

I am glad to hear that. Wonder if any of the recently built or about to be built apartment complexes will go condo?

Underground Atlanta under contract with new owner

The AJC is reporting that Mayor Kasim Reed will announce Wednesday morning that WRS Inc. Real Estate, a development firm based out of Mount Pleasant, S.C., is under contract to purchase Underground Atlanta. President and CEO Scott Smith told the paper that he hopes to close on a deal sometime next year and start with construction on a mixed-used development with a grocery store and apartments no later than 2016. WRS is under contract to purchase the nearly 12-acre property for $25.75 million, and plans to convert the multi-tiered subterranean shopping complex into mixed-use development with a grocery store and above-ground apartments.

Scott Smith, President and CEO of Mount Pleasant-based WRS Inc. Real Estate, has confirmed to The AJC that he expects to close on the deal in mid-2015 with hopes to begin construction by 2016 at the latest.
