Yeah on that note, why doesn't Winnipeg have any 18th-century royal palaces or the most popular art museum in the world? Personally I blame Jane Jacobs.

there's a 25 storey tower at the next station with another 15 storey being built a block away.

the other direction, at the next stop there's a large multi-building development that is admittedly slow to fill in but it is happening....a twin tower project there just started construction.

Its not about zoning. All stations are zoned high density TOD. Its just slow to develop in Winnipeg.

we have to be honest with ourselves....our rapid transit system is a single bus line to the university....it can only be so much of a catalyst.

Phenomenal idea to convert the old Mich into a year round farmers market. Not too expensive in the grand scheme of things either.

Maybe it can be used as a hockey rink for that amount of spending.

Yes, the Hamilton LRT has has some challenges. It seems that's now the past as construction has started with utilities relocation, property demolition, street reconfiguration.

Perhaps a better comparison is Kitchener/Waterloo and the TOD from the ION LRT which has been in service since 2019.

The Canada Line (Richmond to Waterfront) in Vancouver opened in 2009 and outside of the Marpole station there hasn't been many high-rises on the south leg of the line until the last few years. Now you can see where all the stations are from the high-rises mainly residential. Takes time.

Nobody fucked up thir LRT Line like Edmonton did with the East section of the new Valley Line. It came in nearly 3 years late, while they had to redo nearly all the piers.

Several people i met worked on that project, and advised me not to let my loved once ride that train. It finally opened in fall 2023

Ottawa might be close to transit fuck up of the century with the disastrous couple years OC Transpo has had.

Is there any plan to extend SouthWest Transit to the perimeter and perhaps into St Norbrt? (Did I miss something?) With residential development beyond UofM, it would seem to make sense.

This is the Stationlands Development - Station Place to the NE of the Jubilee interchange. The shorter building is under construction and the taller building is slated to start in spring.

I think he was referring to the newer building at Harkness station (the one that had the fire) and the Mayfair project a couple of blocks away. But there's also the twin towers at Jubilee station and development on all sides of Plaza station including the 2 new towers by the river.

And yes, you can in fact get a sandwich at the O Station Cafe. Parcel Pizza beside Harkness station also has sandwiches lol.

I really do not understand why people are so determined to make a "year round farmers market" a thing in Winnipeg with seemingly no clue why there isn't one. Here is a big hint, go talk to some of the local veggie farmers and ask them.

Local crops don't really come into season until July and by Thanksgiving its basically done for the season. Conservatively that means the market needs to run about eight months out of the year without any farmers. At that point what you have left is not really any different than those pop-up Christmas markets that show up.

The other thing people seem to have conveniently forgotten is that Winnipeg used to have a "year round farmers market" but it failed and morphed into something very different for a lot of reasons I mentioned.
