This is the same style crap thrown out across from the Fox by that hotel.

How you try to bring a Gothic style reminiscent of the church without any stone is beyond me.

Beltline DRC agenda includes details on an 182 unit MF project on DLH southwest of Bankhead station, more info on the krog street ped plaza, office, & parking deck, a handful of duplexes, adaptive reuse on Edgewood, and a gas station.

Wow, these two plus the row of townhouses going up the east side of the hill towards Edgewood. Krog is going to be the shortest street in the city with this much development! It was named after Frederick Krog, engineer with the Air Line railroad who lived with his recently widowed mother Jane on Decatur Street near Hilliard back in the 1880's. He left Atlanta before 1890. Never been able to find out where he went. Some online sources have him living at what became Stoveworks/Krog but he was half a mile west; but the railroad did have facilities at Air-Line Alley (now Airline Street) right there.

I'm trying to figure out where the ped. plaza will be going along with the 4 story building. Are they all going on the gravel lot near the Beltline and Irwin street?

Incredible. I certainly remember it like that. You can see the "Freeing the Freeways" construction in progress. I've been in Atlanta since 1974. In 1982 I was in my 2nd year at Georgia Tech. I remember during all that construction there was a long while when, headed north out of town on the downtown connector, you actually peeled off to the right for I-85 and to the left for I-75!

Atlantic Station Dual Branded Hotel via WhatNowAtlanta.com

Quote:
Renderings this week surfaced for a planned dual-branded hotel in Atlantic Station.
Springhill Suites and Tapestry Collection by Hilton will most likely be the project’s two hotels, according to marketing materials from Hines, Atlantic Station’s owner, that were obtained Friday by What Now Atlanta (WNA).

Slated to open in fall 2020, the dual-branded hotel would feature 265 keys.

Peachtree Hotel Group is behind the yet-to-be-announced project.

The Atlanta-based real estate developer and management company in March had planning and design engineering firm Kimley Horn file land development plans with the City of Atlanta for the new hotels.

An affiliate of Peachtree Hotel Group acquired the land where the hotels will be situated, at 301 17th Street NW, in 2018 for nearly $4 MM, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle (paywall).

The site sits between the Twelve Hotel and the BB&T tower in the mixed-use development.

Peachtree Hotel Group on Friday did not immediately respond to WNA’s request for comment.

Embassy Suites By Hilton is also planned in Atlantic Station and could break ground later this year.

IMO this and Atlantic Yards are incredible wastes of space. There should be a minimum enforced of at least 20 stories as these parcels are in short supply and demand will rise well above the stock of sq footage/rooms after construction is complete.

I definitely feel the new hotels should be bigger and grander. At least 500 rooms. It seems like most new hotels these days are small. Btw, does anyone know why only downtown has the bigger hotels? I can see each district (midtown, Atlantic station, and Buckhead) handling at least one hotel in the 1,000 + room category.

Location, location, location...

The big hotels are within walking distance of Atlanta's Convention, Sports, Entertainment and Tourist venues. And there are MARTA heavy rail stations nearby.

Yes!

I have always felt this land is under-utilized along with many other portions of Midtown. The land does not seem to be developed to its potential or it's "highest and best use."

All these prime parcels that should have been properly developed in the beginning, will become scarce. We will ultimately be pushing the boundaries limits of these areas that were intended for higher density at the risk of encroaching into the historic neighborhoods that make Atlanta unique. I feel like the developers are just wanting to make a quick safe buck rather that exploring the ideas of “what could be” for these prime parcels that seem to be dwindling every cycle.

Yes, and that makes perfect sense. I don't know what's near Atlantic Station, other than Atlantic Station. I agree it would be great if that hotel were larger as that area will undoubtedly grow though.

Well, would you rather Atlantic Station pull a "Dewberry" and do absolutely nothing while waiting on the perfect opportunity to built a canyon of highrises?

I would much rather see Atlantic Station reinvent itself and provide what the market will bare right now, instead of playing the wait-in-see game.

Atlanta is witnessing the reinvention of several 'destination' places: Colony Square, Underground, Atlantic Station, Centennial Olympic Park, The Gulch, Peachtree Center, and Philps Plaza.

I think the addition of 3 smaller hotels will reinvigorate the foot traffic at Atlantic Station. Taller hotels would be great, but apparently, the market dictates otherwise.
