These days permitting generally has a number of different interrelated aspects (stormwater, landscape, architectural, fire, etc). Some are state and some local. Different places do it different ways, but at least in my branch of construction (big civil projects) we always have a tangle of permit obligations that get filled at different times.

The fact that they are getting structural permits means they have spent a fair bit of money on detailed design and the project is very likely to move forward.

Surely not a product of the dispute... those would represent the entire footprint.

Do permits usually come in phases like that? I thought developers just got one for their entire project.
Most projects work like this, they can start the foundation while the building portion goes through permits

As much as the building looks interesting. It will have a major impact on the two condo buildings next door. It's really too bad that owners are going to suffer for more renter space.

I'd rather see building increase on Juniper and Piedmont to space some of these buildings out so every building doesn't end up with views of other buildings.

I once thought the same thing. They may be losing their views but they're gaining a Whole Foods which is said to anchor the base of 811. I think most renters will see this as a huge plus. And will likely increases leases in both buildings.

This one is my hood...Hills Park...largely tucked away on the northwest side of the city, the major developer of our neighborhood is Brock Built...they build a solid product, put alleys in, and keep tight lot lines. Their next project is converting a trucking facility, APL, into 182 SFHs and Townhomes. It's a nice addition to the neighborhood, and nicely increases pop density on this side of town:

Makes sense. Thanks.

No it isn't. They knew this was coming when they bought something facing an empty lot.

Tower crane base is in at 33 Peachtree Place. I imagine the crane will be going up relatively soon.

A whole foods would be huge for this side of Midtown. I hope you're right about that one.

Retail note: Sweet Hut is amazing. The chicken nuggets. Wow. Best addition to the Midtown Mile in a year imo.

Unless something has changed that I don't know, the tenant is still Publix as was discussed a while ago. I have seen plans for a Whole Foods anchored project further north in midtown, but they appear to be dormant.

On the Midtown DRC agenda for tomorrow, JR Crickets old building is being torn down, and a new tower is proposed on 12th near the park.

NEW APPLICATION: Alta at the Park (12th Street near Piedmont Avenue)
A new 22-story residential tower with 220 apartments above six levels of podium parking. The main entrance will be located on 12th Street with a secondary entrance on Dickson Place. The project is being developed by Wood Partners and Paradigm Engineering.

Looks like RJT+R will be designing this one.

That looks like a neat project.

What's it called?

My bet is on it being on the site where the white apartments are the owner of skate escape isn't moving anytime soon.

Yeah I hope so. I don't know why Whole Foods has been so stubborn about coming to Midtown.

It seems like I remember reading it on here a while ago that it would be a Whole Foods anchoring 811. Publix is... meh, but it'll do. But considering that there's one a few blocks away, I'd like to see something else for that location.

These are owners not renters. Their property values will take a hit regardless of how you look at it. Not a problem until it happens to you. I'm still rooting for the project to crash and see something develop West or East.

It's strange that Publix is the only grocer willing to be in the core. There's definitely a market for higher quality options, and you'd think others would see how packed the current stores are and want a piece of it. For that matter, I'm surprised there haven't been more small-scale newsstand-type places popping up. I guess it's only a matter of time... with all the new residential coming, Midtown is going to be a very different place in five years.

I'm sorry, but this is what happens when you live in an urban area/big city. The owners knew this was bound to happen sooner or later. I hope this project goes through, it's amazing. Anyone that doesn't understand that is being unreasonable and unrealistic.

This site is a parking lot on prime peachtree frontage. Even if this crashes something big will eventually go on this site. I'd personally rather see a gorgeous project like this go up instead of another nondescript Novare building.

I guess the lot should stay a parking lot forever ...it's not like we don't have enough of those around Atlanta anyway.

Is Atlanta really built out enough and dense enough to have NIMBY-ism? I can understand NYC or SF(beautiful views), but Atlanta? Puh-leez.
