I'm a native of LA, been directly or indirectly connected to dtla for decades. I used to work there & have family who were involved in dt over 50 yrs ago.

What occurs there or is occurring there is very important & interesting to me.

I rarely or never drop by other forums at ssp, since I don't live in other cities...I admit to not finding other areas...even in LA outside dtla....quite as interesting. however, I have been looking more closely at them over the past few months to get a better sense of the bigger picture.

I like reading about dtla, seeing vids & pics about dtla, getting inside info or updates about dtla. The way it's moving upwards, downwards or sideways with other hoods in LA...other places throughout the US & world too...is a subj that brings me here.

I think dtla is increasingly becoming what LA should have always had, needs & deserves.

I don't visit forums that specialize in subjs about pens, watches, computers, bricklaying or pet care tips & complain that I have to read about pens, watches, computers, bricklaying or pet care tips.

^I honestly think the issue is that this is the wrong thread. I come to this thread specifically for project updates on the city nearest to me, not for personal diatribes about the way you feel about things and what latest YouTube video you’ve found to support your vision of LA.

I’m not saying it doesn’t have its place. It’s just not in this particular thread.

This is why I still miss the California we had here many years ago. But the children from both LA and SF couldn’t get along.

Do you know they changed it for that reason? I don’t remember that being the reason. The California forum was always mismanaged by the powers in charge of this forum. Changing it to what it is now pretty much killed it. I recall some cities got their own forum and California was always grouped as one (as usually the case by those who don’t know any better. Californians: they’re all surfing right?) whereas LA and SF should have gotten their own respective forums. It’s akin to having a forum for each 50 states, and then Canada (And California’s population is bigger than Canada).

But yeah, I too miss the California forum if only because we could veer discussions more easily into cultural conversations of things happening only in LA, like the recent acquistion of the Cailleboite painting that’s transformative for the Getty’s collection, or LA’s ascendency as an art capital or restaurant capital.

The 6th street bridge. They’re doing something similar-looking in Alabama in terms of the park beneath the bridge. This could easily be a top LA attraction if judging by what they’re doing which is less ambitious that LA’s.

When is the animosity between L.A. and S.F. going to end? The cities should work together to get more resources from Washington for important projects. L.A. and S.F. have a lot in common, and L.A. in a lot of ways is becoming more like S.F. in transit, high density neighborhoods, homeless and crime issues, etc.

Mostly ego. Where I’m from is better than where you’re from. Obviously rather juvenile, but I don’t see that changing.

Nothing wrong with rivalry, like that between Boston and NYC sports teams, but the SF/LA thing is turned up a notch, especially on their side I think I can honestly say. Not as bad as it used to be, since even they recognize that LA is becoming more like them in density, transit etc., but still there. It is improving I think. Both cities know they have problems, with affordable housing, homelessness, crime, gangs etc. so maybe honesty will lead to understanding and cooperation in prying more resources from DC. We'll see.

Ignore feature only works if you stay logged in constantly. It also doesn’t completely disappear the person, their username still pops up when they post. So it's been about 4 to 5 years since most of the south park developments were announced and that's the typical time frame (sadly) for things to break ground down here. We all know onni broke ground on their 60 story building on Olympic and hill and I'm hopeful we'll get a few more soon.

My wish list (I know I know) of projects to break ground in the next year or so ...

1) AEG hotel 11th and Grand
2) Crescent Heights 11th and olive
3) Mack urban trio (2 on 11th and olive, hotel at 12th and olive)

I'd love to see all the city century projects move forward but since they are Chinese, I won't hold my breath. Olympia is my favorite of all dtla proposals and the 2 towers at 12 and grand would be great for south park.. It's too bad they are unlikely at this point until sold

Anyone know if there's any movement on any of these from permitting / planning?

Also, the Aragon properties project along 200 feet of Sunset near dodger stadium that's replacing the run down and closed hardware store and car wash had been fenced off with scaffolding and a bulldozer on site. Massive improvement for that block and the start of many projects there

I think 4th & Hill, aka "Angeles Landing", is possible too.. but they need to buy the CRA property first and and they need some help on top of that (subsidies, tax exempt-bonds ect).

They (Peebles Corp., MacFarlane) are making some progress though.

Agreed--if built as they appear in the renderings, the plazas would be the best open spaces downtown.
