I think one end of the seating may be retractable seating. Those seats can be collapsed and moved out allowing the stage to be set further back, there would not be as many seats lost on the sides. I think 10,000 for a concert is a stretch, there would still be a fair amount of seating lost because of the stage, I would say almost a quarter house.

Construction Update - Courtesy of the City of Moncton:

PROJECT BY NUMBERS (to date)
- 1,300 tonnes of steel has been erected to date
- 2,700 tonnes of steel will be erected when the structural steel is complete
- Over 5,000 pieces of steel make up the 2,700 tonnes of steel used for the facility
- There are 300 precast concrete bleacher pieces
- The precast bleachers contain approx. 966 m3 of concrete and weigh approx. 2,244 tonnes
- The roof trusses are 9 meters tall at the peak and the longest truss measures 69 meters
- The average daily crew on site is 40

CONSTRUCTION OF THE FACILITY WHERE ARE WE?
– The required structural steel has been installed to accept 75% of the precast bleachers.
– The remaining bleachers (25%) will be installed from the exterior of the building when the structural steel is complete.
– The north-west (Main Street) areas of structural steel are ready to see masonry work begin on the exterior walls.
– Metal decking is being installed on the north west side (Main Street) of the concourse and roof levels in preparation for concrete slabs and roofing.
– With the steel and canopies having been erected, the main entrance, the ticketing area and the team store entrance are currently visible.
– Water main installation on the adjacent land has been completed.
– The Downtown Centre construction project is currently on schedule.

WHAT IS PLANNED FOR THE NEXT 4 WEEKS?
The primary focus will be the installation of the precast concrete bleachers.

Early in the month, the large crane will shift from installing structural steel to precast concrete bleachers.
Smaller structural steel will continue to be erected around the perimeter while the crane is installing the bleachers.

Structural steel crews will be assembling roof trusses on site. Once the first phase of precast bleacher installation is complete, the roof truss installation will begin. We expect this to begin at the end of August and be completed by the end of November or beginning of December 2016.

Exterior masonry walls will begin on the north-west side (Main Street) of the building.

INTERESTING FACTS
1) From Main Street you can see metal decking going on the concourse level, one level below the lower roof. The concourse level will house the majority of the concession stands and washrooms, and is continuous around the perimeter of the building. This level has large punched windows on the south end (facing the railway) for views of the city as you navigate through the building.
2) The completed steel facing the plaza on the east side (Highfield St. extension) will house the club lounge and multi-purpose areas designed to accommodate a variety of events and compliment the activities in the plaza.
3) During the July 20, 2016 Regular Public Meeting, Moncton City Council awarded a contract to IBI Group Professional Services (Canada) Inc. for the development of a Transportation Dispersal Plan (Moncton Downtown Centre).

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DOWNTOWN CENTRE
- The project’s substantial completion date is set for July 1, 2018.
- The official opening will be held in September 2018.
- Total cost of the project is $104 million (in 2018 dollars) : $91.5 million for facility acquisition and $12.7 million dollars for land acquisition.

I like the last two photos. They really show how the profile of the city will change for those people driving southbound on Highfield Street. A real urban landscape is starting to develop.

The building is also beginning to fill in, with the partial installation of the pre cast seating sections and the installation of some interior partitions.

So from the drone pictures, it looks like the first roof trusses are in place. It gives you a sense of the height of the building. SWEET!

Indeed. It gives you an idea of the actual impact of the height of this building on the streetscape.

I'm going to assume those retractable seats/stands will be on the south side end of the building. The service entrance garage doors is located on this side.

And I'm guessing there's only about half a dozen or so rows of seats which are going to be retractable.

The roof trusses that they are now installing reveal the full height of the building (every bit of six stories). The events centre is just as tall as the reddish federal building on the other side of Main Street. The west end of the downtown core will feel completely different in two years time; even more so if the anticipated multi-storey residential/commercial buildings in the old Bay parking lot get built. I am quite hopeful that this will all pan out. With the Tannery Village under construction and with potential development of the Aquillini block thrown in, the west end suddenly might feel very urban......
