Can Anybody Please Tell Me What The Significance Of The '"elgin Street Sweepers" Provide ?must Be 1 Anoying Vehicles On Every Sreet Downtown Where Any Development Is Going On. Im Assuming They Are Suppose To Be Keeping The Dust From The Sites To A Minimum, But Everytime I Pass One They Are Stirring Up The Dust And Holding Up All The Traffic Behind Them! Totally Annoying And Im Sure One Of Those Weird Idiotic Ordinances The City Requires All Developers.

i think that'd be awesome. and btw, there are a lot of parking lots in the loop. EDIT* i need to READ better. SURFACE lots, oops. well there are those down next to the CNA and the Library and that BIG open lot of grass... anyway...
Correct so it is technically not within the loop of the Wells-Van Buren-Wabash-Lake L tracks.
Technically, the 200 - 218 lot is outside the Loop, it's not inside the elevated tracks it on the border of the loop. I'm out of town today or I would walk it and look at lunch. I don't think there are any purely surface lots within the Loop. There are still quite a few with in the Wacker, Congress Michigan boundaries though. In fact most of them are on Wabash and Wells
I know we've touched on this before, but I've got to bring it up again: SCB is starting to really get on my nerves. Who's responsible for all of these designs looking so damn similar? Is Wolf so convinced that he's a superstar, and that he has exactly the right solution, that he wants to pollute the whole city with the same kind of design? Is Buenz preventing others from becoming designers? Or, is it simply that the developers are saying "you have three weeks to give us a preliminary design," and SCB takes the bait?
I know for a fact that they have the talent and the strength to produce something a wee bit different. Even somone like Al Shaw would at least change the colors and materials when he "rehashed" designs.
The catch here, of course, is that the design quality is usually a lot better than standard fare in Chicago. Hence, little complaining about this issue from any of the critics or public. But really, Mies could get away with this because he was the genius. SCB? Not so much.
