No kidding. The state legislature is full of self interest. The Reagan sign co is a top offender. If SLC really wants grand Blvds, they need get rid of a bunch of signs.

Building around that sign is ridiculous.

Thanks for posting Atlas. This really gives you the idea of the size of this project. The CCH looks beautiful in this shot. Won't be long before the skeleton of the Domain Tower will be very visible in that first shot. I'm looking forward to the Post District being the catalyst that gets rid of all that low-rise crap in the surrounding blocks.

If the government denies the move request, its only option is to purchase the billboard at an inflated rate with taxpayers’ money in a narrow window of time. No other business is granted the “privilege” of moving location for business reasons, and demanding taxpayer compensation if their preferred location is not an option.
somebody should put this on a billboard

Ha, I can just imagine drivers trying to read the whole paragraph as they drive by on the freeway at 80 mph.

That brings up another good argument against billboards: their entire purpose is to distract drivers from driving.

I wonder if there have been any studies on the effectiveness of billboards in the modern era? I see far more people sitting or driving in traffic, while simultaneously looking at their phones. I can't imagine those eyesore billboards are having much of an impact on revenue if no one is looking at them. I could be way off though. Clearly it's far more effective to draw your attention online if you're an advertiser these days.

I've thought about that often during my commute. If we don't want drivers looking at their cellphones (rightfully so), then why are we intentionally pulling their eyes away from the road to look at billboards? Seems like a double standard.

So much better with the cleaner air. It’ll probably be a great shot after the storm.

When are we expecting demo on the Royal Wood Plaza? That camera angle will be fun when the West Quarter Phase II gets going.

Amen, delts. Man, that block to the east looks absolutely terrible.

Looks like Modern Display is giving up their spot on 400S and 700E. Guessing that involves the big warehouse behind the storefront too. A big development opportunity...

That was always one of my favorite places to go at Christmastime. I wonder where they'll move to? That land has become way too valuable to use as warehousing.

The Dixon is such an attractive building. I hope other developers take notice.

Our planning commission just killed another reasonable low-rise infill project on the east side. The planning department even recommended approval of this one.

Such a shame. The housing affordability crisis is almost 100% made by our policies. This is a great project that is totally appropriate for the road it is on and the structures it surrounds. It is a stones throw away from Westminster with all its traffic and large buildings, but this is unacceptable?

I don't get why they would deny it if the planning department approved it.

The project should have never existed in the first place. Now there will be a vacant lot where affordable apartments sat before being demolished.

Now it's a lose-lose.
