In my experience SSP beats main stream media to the punch almost every time. It's only on the rare occasion that something is reported in the paper or on TV first.

The Wellington development is breaking/has broken ground at long last, there have been some updates in the Uptown thread on the forum that you can check out.

A while back someone (Adam I think) posted a map of uptown streets to be rebuilt. If I remember correctly - there was a street down in TCB area - maybe Vulcan St - that may give us a clue because such an odd choice given lack of development in area

Not Vulcan, but the west half of Broadview. Sydney from Broad to TCB will need upgrades if this project moves ahead for sure- Harbour Passage spur to TCN on the south side and perhaps actual curbs and sidewalks on the north. Maybe this is waiting on the project like the extremely overdue Wentworth reconstruction waited on the major work at the Wentworth to be completed.

Road improvement map, not counting Rodney St in the Lower West: https://imgur.com/a/BHlH4H7

Dark red- Harbour Passage extension
Red- full water/sewer/street replacement/landscaping (I believe the western portion of Princess is just water/sewer as it's in good shape to the eye)
Orange- red plus burying power lines (Charlotte from King to Princess)

Fort Dufferin

With all of the developments happening in Saint John now, I wonder of the plans for Fort Dufferin will be revived . From what I remember it was 3xTowers 12 floors each.

Wonder what makes that bigger than a hotel/condo/office building by “way way way more”. Hundreds of good paying jobs ?

My bet is on an SMR research and production facility.

This could be huge since SMRs are safe, and an efficient way to produce electricity, which will be huge for the post carbon world. Yes, this would have the potential for hundreds of high quality well paying jobs.

It is a risky investment though. There are other countries around the world investing in SMRs. I watched a video the other night about Rolls Royce in the UK potentially getting together with Elon Musk to produce nuclear thermal engines for his Mars Starship program. Very exciting stuff.

Many people don’t realize there are 2 nuclear energy companies in the uptown - Moltex and ARC. Don’t really hear much about them. We are lucky Point Lepreau project attracted the talent required to bring these companies to SJ.

As for the other rumour of a tech company moving their HQ to Saint John - sources I can’t name confirm it, although it’s not a HQ rather another office. The company is well established, well respected and would not be a fly by night operation. Apparently COVID / Immigration are factors that are delaying it

Wonder what Uptown's office vacancy-by-type sits at right now.

Class A is at around 15%
I don’t see these figures as an indicator of economic well being. The Irving HQ added over 350,000 sq ft of class A office space to the city. It will come down when 15 Market Sq transitions to hybrid office/residential and as new companies eat up space
