good article on Bockstael construction, "Manitoba's Builder"!

https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/bu...transformation

Bockstael currently has 25 construction projects on the go, with another 15 in the pre-construction phase.

The design process has begun for a new headquarters, to be built on land the company purchased on Marion Street. They’ll move in in the next two years.

Good to see the next gen family pushing the company forward!

Too bad we couldn't have more headquarters in the downtown. I know we talked about this on and off. It does make sense for construction or manufacturing companies to have offices located close to or at their production sites. But everything gets spread out.

Good to see this happening, especially on city land.

Is it my imagination, or has there been a fair amount of positive movement towards housing and economic growth in the city? It seems like all the talk about streamlining the development process, especially to promote desired projects like housing, is more than just talk this time.

Did article mention Johns 2 brothers who were key to their success?

Has anybody heard anything about the planned redevelopment of 138 Portage Avenue East? Construction should have started last fall and ready for occupancy in 2025. I pass by this building everyday and it looks like there is nothing going on there.

There is an entire thread dedicated to this project. It has recent activity so should be easy to locate.

Thanks flagging this! Interesting tidbit about their new HQ. Anybody have any intel as to what they’re planning to build?

It's funny, I was going to say - "probably David Grant". Sure enough it was him.

If anyone follows City Hall, this guy must be retired and have nothing else to do, because he is usually at most of the meetings and has something to present or say on almost every subject.

Retired engineer faces colleagues at disciplinary hearing in amber light dispute

Same guy maybe? This article did give me a chuckle lol

'They allege that I am not qualified to comment on traffic. I've been facing yellow lights for 55 years or so. I know how they work,' Grant said after his hearing was adjourned."

I don't mind his quips to City Hall. A lot of them are very valid opinions. It has gotten a lot more extensive as of late I feel. Surprised he's not on this site. Or maybe he is!

I agree with him. Faster roads should have longer yellows. What is so controversial about that?

Yep I agree, 4 second yellow is fine for Osborne or Corydon, it's not fine for Bishop or McGillvery. Roads with an 80km'h speed limit should probably have a 6 second yellow.

They should have off ramps and overpasses, but Winnipeg is too cheap to afford them. A big roundabout will be adequate.

The real question… why are they silencing him? He didn’t say anything wrong or even controversial. He’s concerned about citizen safety and has shown that other cities use these methods. He has a right to publicly state his opinions. No corruption here folks.

Not too cheap… just dumb. An extra hundred and fifty million every year for teachers who are already the second highest paid in Canada, manitoba needs to be first. We’re first for the worst performing students in Canada and soon to be first for highest paid teachers. Hurray!
