http://atlanta.curbed.com/archives/2014/...developments-are-on-the-rebound.php#more

Wait, so this would mean that they are planning 4 more towers at Tech Square aside from Tech Square Tower, University House, and the 24 story Georgia Tech Computer Modeling Program tower. If that's the case, this is excellent!

However, I've looked around and not found anything else on the developments besides what's on curbed, so i'm gonna hold my breath on this.

how long did that take? that is a long ass walk! looks like it's about 6 miles? about the same distance as walking from the MET near the reservoir at central park to the world trade center

Tech Square looks amazing! I really wanted to sign up for classes after walking through just a small part of it today.

Yeah...that shot does not paint a pretty picture of Atlanta. Amazing transformation!

That illustrates why I'm happy with any new developments even when they're "not tall enough" or "just another boring Novare tower." I'm not sure if newer transplants understand how much blight there was in Midtown just 10-20 years ago. The fact that any development is happening at all is encouraging. We can worry about building world-renowned architectural masterpieces later

Found these on the downtown development map on Central Atlanta Progress.

Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard and Venable Street

http://www.atlantadowntown.com/go/springhill-suites-new-development

186-206 Edgewood Ave

http://www.atlantadowntown.com/go/186-206-edgewood-property-new-construction

145-149 Auburn Ave

http://www.atlantadowntown.com/go/auburn-apartments-new-construction

Hopefully this means we'll start to see some activity roll into downtown. Those apartments and retail could provide a great boost to the Edgewood / Auburn area.

I believe the 145-149 Auburn Avenue building is no longer happening. It was supposed to replace the former Atlanta Daily World building. That building is now being restored, with Condesa and Arden's Garden moving in the retail spaces early next year. I wonder if anybody knows what building is going in the empty corner of Auburn and Piedmont, next to the Atlanta Daily World...

You are mistaken. This is the revised plan that preserves the Daily World building. It's going on the parking lot next door.

All of these projects are happening.

No, the city does not "have every right to rezone the property as it sees fit" and will generally not downzone because legally it could be considering taking. There are numerous law articles written on this topic, but in general the city is very reluctant to downzone property over objections of the property owner due to fear of being sued for taking.

Those developments in Downtown are amazing and the good thing about it is that all of them doesn't look the same!
I can't wait for next year to come can't wait to see bigger and better developments and proposed developments to come to fruition.

I really like the scale of the Downtown projects and the fact that many are adaptive re-use of smaller buildings. I prefer this over the monolithic single-block towers that we're seeing in other areas (which, quite honestly, is Peachtree Center all over again, just with a better street presence).

Better than a few years back when there was just a group of huge tall buildings surrounded by a sea of parking.
