I don't think Genral was advocating that it be torn down.

Thank you ATX...for coming to my rescue of course I wasn't suggesting such a thing. I was pointing out what a great piece of land this is with amazing views, perfect for my new home with a 100ft observation deck. But I am advocating the repurposing of another great piece of land, the spot where thr AAS sits.

Never said anything about tearing down the high school for a new developement. Just from that picture, I could imagine what could be there if it was vacant...I appreciate your passion. I mean Austin no harm...big fan here.

DT looking from the west looks tighter...no gaps, than when you look from the south where you see the true spread out of the buildings east to west along the lake. Again, just my personal observation.
Some people look at things and say "perfect" I look at things and say "what if..."

There was a time not long ago that the skyline didn't look so expansive from the south. Now it stretches across for about 3 miles.

I've always thought it was appropriate for the location. There's no way you could have a cozy residential neighborhood there with people zipping down Cesar Chavez fresh off of Mopac (when the traffic on it does flow). It's more likely it would be turned into a park before anything else, if Austin High were to close for some reason.

In about 10 years it'll be a solid wall of buildings from end to end. You'll also probably have to zoom out.

JW Marriott always looks like a 400 foot slice of ocean water from the deep to me. Sweet pic. This weather is great for skyline photos.

Excellent photo Mopacs! 5th & West and The Independent will help balance the skyline once completed.

^Great pics. I really think the residential buildings in that area have the best views.

I agree. I am surprised the biggest, baddest towers arent being built over in Rainey area. Maybe issue with that the east side views would go for much less, but can't beat those western facing views.

Great pics, everyone!

In Mopacs' photo from the flyover you can really see the 400' wall forming. It will be nice when a couple taller ones are added.

I agree. I do think that as downtown moves away from the river some taller towers would be good, for sure. That could create a neat step-down effect to the river also. If only 400 foot buildings are built to the north then we're screwed, of course. A few 600-800 foot buildings would be great to add more texture. We don't need a 1000 footer yet - that'd be out of place at this point in time, in my opinion - but it'd be cool down the road. Before we go much higher, the transportation issue needs to be resolved. Think of how much more parking would be required for multiple 800 foot buildings - residential or commercial. Better that Austin dig deep and pay the big bucks required for a world-class transit system.
