WTF? I'm watching this thread just wondering what will happen next. It sucks that something like this brings out the anarchists (no other word for them). We know what that's like here in the bay area......

people live in that same building too

seems like that masked people inside the bay as seen on CTV are protecting the store - thats why they have the extinguishers

Louis vuitton at the hotel vancouver has had its windows smashed

I am getting really pissed that the police are just standing there. The time to crack some skulls came a long time ago.

That's what they did in 94 and it just inflamed the situation.

Exactly. People are looting Sears and yet I'm seeing CTV footage of lazy police offers pooling together at a place not nearly close to there. I don't understand.
EDIT: More around Sears now, finally. But still.

Statement just released by Roberto Luongo: "If everyone goes home, I will release the Canucks from their contract with me."

It was mentioned on Global a few minutes ago.. Nothing since. But if that's the case - can you imagine the added condemnation Vancouver is going to get from the rest of the country and even the world? It's on the main page of CNN now too...

I think that's a riot containment technique, they used it during the G20. When there's that many rioters I don't think they can just get in there and "crack some skulls". Looks like they're tightening up around the crowd now...

This behavior is really, really disappointing. Everyone always blames it or anarchists or 'small numbers of delinquents' as Gregor put it, but I think the majority of the damage is done by drunken hooligans. No excuses there. Vancouver doesn't deserve a hockey team if its citizens can't act like adults.

This idiocy achieves absolutely nothing apart from wrecking taxpayer-funded infrastructure, imposing massive costs on local businesses and justifying the arguments of those who support draconian liqueur licensing, public order laws and so on.

How come politics and economics isn't enough to get us onto the streets, but a spherical disk sliding along a sheet of ice into a net is? There is absolutely no excuse for this primitive behavior in today's society.

Disgusting.

Tonight the police clearly used a strategy of extreme restraint and non-intervention and the situation grew worse than 1994. Historic Hudson Bay was almost burned to the ground. Your theory that if the police do not respond appropriately to acts of crime, then a riot can be avoided is totally discredited.

Tonight, allowing a small group of hooligans to trash and burn a vehicle with complete impunity is what inflamed the situation.

the police don't want to repeat 94 though - they don't want to crack skulls cause they tried that last time and it was only making the situation worse

things are bad but things can be rebuilt they are only things - all those stores have insurance

hopefully and more than likely social media will catch a lot of people

Why the hell doesn't the Mayor declare a curfew to get rid of the looky-loo audience hanging around? Nothing scares a secretary like the thought she's going to be thrown in the slammer.

Don't be so harsh. They'll get a lot of likes when they upload the pictures they're taking to Facebook. Might even be able to sell them to the Sun or get them on TV!

What kind of punishment do the rioters face? Better be a lot more than a night in a cell and a fine.
