It's been a few months since I've heard any news on this front. Have there been no developments?

Yup, it has been real quiet... I've been wondering myself.

Maybe David Asper/Creswin is having some trouble securing enough tenants for the current stadium site.

Someone else posted, forgot who, that with the the IKEA and big box mega-development at Kenaston coming soon, that would probably at least devalue or reduce the demand for such retail developments. I thought it a good point, and it could very well be giving Creswin a difficult time in lining up retailers.

Ya no new news.

But I do know that they are planning to put the shovels in the ground next spring so I wouldn't expect any construction photos anytime soon.

I see. No news is better than bad news. I'm giddy with delight at the thought of this new facility. I hope Regina, Ottawa, and Hamilton get new stadia too. It would be great for pro football.

Creswin is getting closer to filling all the slots ... the area is very desirable and Winnipeg's economy is still proving strong. One of the factors which slowed up the leasing was finalizing the slite plans, but from what I understand its all going according to plan.

Did I once read a rumour that London Drugs was looking to open a second winnipeg store? Perhaps near Polo Park? If so, then the stadium redevelopment site would be PERFECT for them.

^ London Drugs wants a second Winnipeg store! Give Asper all the tax dollars he needs to build us a new stadium so the old stadium can be torn down pronto for a new London Drugs that will surely complete Winnipeg. This second London Drug's (tears up) will make Winnipeg world class!

^ man you're an idiot sometimes

...and yes London Drugs wants a location in Polo Park area. However, they have a fairly small footprint and I think Asper will need another 10 tenants that size to fit there.

^The name says it all ! What says "International city and world class hub !" like having the name "London" on a store in your city ?

Seriously though , I rather like London Drugs and I have no problem with making room for one of their stores at the present stadium site. It would be a million times better if it was part of a retail/residential complex but unless something changes (read : somebody who knows how to plan a city gets a job planning Winnipeg) we shouldn't hold our breath for anything BUT retail. Sad but true my friends.

"Eeeewww!!! London Drugs!! That place is sooo plebeian!! My feces doesn't smell at all!!"

Is this what all Winnipeggers are thinking all the time?? That new stores coming in that fulfill people's basic needs are wastes of time, effort and money?? I've never heard people of any other city shoot up their nostrils at a development project that involves some basic, normal place. You people have a strange blend of self-indignitation and aristocratic crassness.

Careful SmileBoy, i get on the Fargo development page from time to time and you guys seem to get pretty excited when TGI Friday's opens up a new location or some other small potatoe development happens too.

Bizarro eh? But true. Us Winnipeggers do have a very unique perspective on things Winnipeg. Especially true when it comes to development.

I don't know of another city that is so full of Nimby-ism...

Just this Winnipeggers opinion...

We get POSITIVE excited about it, not thumbing up our noses about it like a lot of Winnipeg folks seem to do.
