that thing will be pretty sexy when it's all lit up with the crown on the riverview to complement it. it's getting there, guys. not much longer till crown time.
Coming along quite nicely. Been about 4 years since I have been down to Gulf Shores, and I usually goto Mobile for a day or so. Looks like I will be going there again soon, in the future.
After evacuating south florida because of Wilma I'm back home in Gulf Breeze. I took some pictures of RSA yesterday with my girlfriend who's attending college in Mobile.
The pic of the Train Depot that is posted what is it now being used for? I have seen depots all over and this is one unique building. It looks like it has some size to it and it is so attractive. Hats off to Mobile for not letting this one get tore down. I have seen pics of some that did get demolished and the one in Birmingham Alabama was another great building, I think they tore that one down for the Freeway. Again Mobile you have a classic Depot.
I believe I read somewhere the crown will be fiberglass with metal skin overlay. It will probably come in 4 - 8 sections and go together pretty quick
That does make sense from what we've heard on the forum: the cranes are as high as they are going, and the pieces crown will be lifted into place by helicopters.
Hey Everyone!! Great Pix Gulf Breeze!! The tower is finally starting to shape up, and I can't wait to see it with the crown and spire!!! Hopefully by the end of November....just in time for the holidays!!!
The GM&O building is actually one of three designed by the same architect (Atlanta, Birmingham and Mobile). Mobile is the only remaining one of the three and has recently been renovated as Class A office space. The others were lost to freeways in the 1960's. It's amazing that the GM&O survived the massive urban renewal demolitions that occurred downtown in the 1960's for Water Street (and later I-165).
