Regina saw a record number home sales in 2024, report says
Above average home sales throughout 2024 translated into a record year for Regina that saw nearly 4,000 sales made.
According to a report from the Saskatchewan Realtors Association (SRA), Regina recorded 3,917 sales in 2024 which is an all time annual high

New Regina Chamber of Commerce CEO will focus on taxes, feedback
New Regina & District Chamber of Commerce CEO Mike Tate is focused on ensuring rising taxes in the city won't close down more businesses.

One interesting note Tate made is the potential to build attractions and condos downtown, which will increase the city's revenue.

He references how "[in] 2016 when Edmonton built Rogers Place residential condo sales increased by 60 per cent." Tate used this example as what infrastructure can do, which will bring opportunity for Regina in the distant future.

Seeing as Tate has a new prominent role in the city, he will be meeting soon with new Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski and all the councillors, which primarily consist of new individuals.

Previous councils and mayors (going back 20+ years) have increased spending, but never taxes enough to go along with it. This is long-overdue, even if people won't like it.

Fiacco was hellbent on zero or near zero tax increases and we've been paying for it ever since. We have lots of infrastructure debt that those years have cost us.

“Past budgets prioritized maintaining low mill rate increases over fully covering the cost of civic operations, and relied on other revenue streams,” reads a report going before executive committee Wednesday, "That approach is no longer sustainable or responsible.”

The cost to deliver city services has increased by 7.9 per cent since 2020 but mill-rate increases for operations have not kept pace, having only increased by 1.2 per cent in the same time frame, according to administration.

New Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski announces two new major initiatives during his first State of the City address.

Bachynski pointed to a number of initiatives that have been under way, including the new Aquatic Centre, a new transit fare system, downtown initiatives such as revitalizing Scarth Street, and the permanent emergency shelter on Halifax Street.

Wave Developments was looking to build a cluster of three-storey apartment buildings with 18 total units and on-site parking at 4125 and 4129 Queen Street.

The project needed discretionary approval from city council due to its height and density, slightly above the allowed limits for the low-density zone.

Ground broken for new Ronald McDonald House to be built in Regina

Construction expected to be completed by early 2027
The Saskatchewan government has announced it will fund the first ever Ronald McDonald House in Regina.

The facility, which will provide a "home-away-from-home" for families with children experiencing serious health issues, will be built on the corner of Scarth Street and 15th Avenue, close to the Regina General Hospital.

The government will provide $6.5 million in funding. The announced design includes a children's playroom, a communal kitchen, an outdoor play space and 20 bedrooms.

What’s likely more consequential is the outcome — that one of the big drivers of Saskatchewan’s population growth for the past 20 years is now on hold.

The city is broke from years of underfunding. They need new revenue sources. Hospitality taxes are pretty standard in most cities, and yet there is still new builds

Perhaps to the delight of some and the chagrin of others, the Regina Police Service’s Aerial Support Unit (ASU) is back in the skies over the Queen City.

The aircraft, a Cessna 182T, returned to service on Feb. 14, 2025 after undergoing repairs. Within its first seven shifts back in the air, the ASU “assisted with nearly 60 calls for service and aided in 13 arrests,” according to the Regina Police Service
