I don’t care for it’s design all that much. I just look at it as filler that will increase structural density and add height and prominence to the skyline.

The only thing I don’t like about Austin’s skyline is this maddening and prolific amount of blue buildings in the skyline. I don’t want our skyline to become that monotonous in terms of color and texture because it can add tackiness to it. But I’ll take whatever we can get. My love for a big city broad shoulder type of skyline outweighs my concerns over too much blue glass. And we can’t predict how long a downtown construction boom can last, so I definitely don’t want to take any of this for granted. Hope all of our proposals or at least the heavy majority of them begin construction.

I am somewhat indifferent to the Austin skyline's homogenous look. I am grateful for the growth that has surpassed my expectations by a multiple of at least 2; and we just started growing vertically. It'll take a while before we have more diversity. You can distinguish, for the most part, the: 70s; 80s; 90s (I can't actually think of any); 2000's (besides Frost); and '10s to now. The main difference between the 200s and the last decade is a substantial increase in height and the number of projects. Nothing to complain about here.

Rainy is a new skyline. The Statesman site will be one. UT campus will be a third, and the Domain a fourth. What more could a skyscraper enthusiast ask for in the third largest city in the state?

I get it and I'm with y'all. Still very veery excited for this baby and everything proposed or u/c. I really don't see our boom ever completely stopping and I am totally on board with density for the sake of density (and height at times). Maybe it's me growing into a somewhat more conservative and selective stance on downtown development.

It's been about 10 years or so since I've been to Rainey, so maybe I need a visit....?

Does anyone else feel kinda weird these large scale towers are going in there?

Either way I am excited to see what all this does for street level interaction...and I so badly want a render of all 3 together.

You definitely need to get down to Rainey on a Sunday morning or something, when it's quiet, just for some perspective. It'll make all of this both more real and more jaw dropping at the same time.

I think our boom still has a lot of running room, and we're going to run out of adequately zoned parcels a lot faster than we are desire to build. We've been the beneficiary of SO MANY post-pandemic trends that are just now starting to bloom . . . we've got years left to go, IMO.

That said, there will come a point where our skyline looks like a dated relic. So much is coming so fast, and we're so squarely placed in the middle of the early 2000's tech design ethic that there's just no way we don't age poorly, at least for a period of time. But it'll come around again, just as these things do.

Yes, I agree with all of that. Guessing I'll be drooling over our skyline in 20 years with nostalgia. I already do that with Monarch and 360 lol.

You mean you're not a fan of staggered windows, segmented amenity decks with exposed support beams, and obnoxiously sized parking podiums?

There's little reason to believe that the boom will end anytime soon. If anything, it appears to be accelerating in intensity.

Crazy that we could see an 800 footer in Rainey next to a supertall with 98 Red River. That will help to balance the height of the supertall for sure. It's generic, but a nicer generic.

Does the white cladding look translucent to anyone else? I can't tell if it's solid metal or frosted glass. If there is a translucency to it I think it could be far from generic. I don't know if I've seen frosted glass used at this scale.

I like it. More renderings will help though. I liked the street/creek level of the the original Travis Towers and would like to see how much of a change there will be if any.

If it isn't happening, they are spending a lot of money for no real reason on permits.
