I never understood why the 101 designation never extended onto the Bedford Bypass, but I guess the current route was built first as Trunk 1.

the original highway plan, and greater sackville plan was really a thing of beauty and logic, albeit at the cost of more greenspace.

Are there any images of the old plan?

The bypass wasn't built to the same standard as a 100 series highway. It's too hilly and curvy so the speed limit is too low. It's a strange stretch of highway in that it has no posted numerical designation (although Google Maps calls it 33) and the exits don't even have numbers.

Work is happening in February under the Bedford Bypass overpass. It appears there will be an extra lane as part of the new 102 collector system that will squeeze under the existing overpass to take collector traffic directly onto the 101 westbound from the 102 Southbound/107 westbound.

2+2+2+2 express-collector configuration between 103 and 107 in the long run?

I would guess that the 2+2+2+2 would only be in around the 101 and 107, then the 102 would be 3 lanes each way to the 103 for long term. Probably could have a 4th lane from 101 to 103 for carpooling.

If the 113 is ever built, now that is a different story.

Ive been looking, but cant find a grand plan or even the proper pieces I was referring to.
What you can see is the old property lines that was to be the highway between first and second lakes in Sackville when you center on PID 41391640
Somehow they shaped lots out of it now and theyre selling off.

Agree - what was even more strange to me is learning Dartmouth Road used to have homes on it from where it stops now and into the foot of Akerley.

They were removed for the Magazine.

In the spirit of the original purpose to this thread, maybe before we dive headlong into Sandy Lake development we ought to be creating a reserve for future highway alignment. I have all of 90 seconds into this but gives an idea. Essentially allows for developing an entirely new interchange(s) without being in the mess of the current debacle we have.

Albeit I havent allowed for all the connections (yet), and would need better alignment around Range Park (if it stays) than my mouse movements at the end of the day.

Drove by there today and the Concrete on the Glasis is gone and gravel work underway.

Looks like you're running it right through the DND rifle range?

For that much money you could just take the main 102 straight across on a bridge, so that through traffic doesn’t go down and back up. That would get them up out of the way and leave space for whatever. Connect the 101 directly to the bypass and reconnect the 1 as it was a long time ago.

I really like seeing people's ideas on highway infrastructure. You know that quick sketch really opened up and idea I never thought of. Thanks. I'd love to see more sketches like that on this forum

Are Trunk Road 1 and Bedford Bypass meeting at the roundabout?
And where’s the on-ramp from Trunk Road 1 west to 101 west?
It’s very easy to forget a ramp for a complicated interchange like this one.

- Yes, Trunk 1 and Bedford Bypass meet at the roundabout.

- I do have a Trunk 1 west to Hwy 101 west though its small so I can see how it would be missed. Its a small right turn off right before meeting Hwy 102 going onto the long onramp from 102 north to 101 west.

This is really neat! Never would have considered a roundabout there but with the 107 extension alleviating the Bedford Bypass congestion it would probably suffice.
