The landlord/owner of the Plaza of Nations (Canadian Metropolitan Properties) just may not be in a hurry to develop (they've held the site for many years).
They could also be allowing Edgewater Casino to remain as long as it needs to.
I thought there was some complicated land swap between CME/Pavco and Aquilini. CME was in a hurry to demolish back in 2007 when I worked there, and kept saying construction would begin in 2012 when Edgewater's lease ran out.

Now I think they're waiting for Edgewater to be able to move.

Will the concourse be ever fully connected again?
The parkade construction was accelerated to have the area and access in good condition for the FIFA World Cup
- I expect that the stairs are a critical part of that.

The concourse will not be connected all the way around after the casino is built. From the other side, there will be stirs to Expo Blvd, or you can walk through the casino lobby (24 hrs?) to get to grade.

Thanks for the picture. Odd how they seem to be doing small corner areas at a time.

Another crane has been installed (red one on the right in first pic below). Looks like a twin of the red luffing crane on the left.

Yeah, noticed the second crane today as well. The site is getting BUSY with five cranes operating in the area now! I just wish the ones on the neighbouring project wouldn't look like they are from a scrap yard...

Happened to walk by. Not the ideal direction of the sun in these photos, but I'll still post them.

The latter one wasn't even supposed to be a panorama, but they photos did stitch together, although some serious warping was needed to make it a square. I will have to take another one in the near-term future.

great update! thanks klazu

looks like the official name for this is Parq Vancouver.
I hate when words are misspelled like that.

the article below confirms that the hotels will be a JW Marriott and The Douglas (also a Marriott hotel) which is named after Canadian botanist David Douglas, the namesake of the Douglas Fir. This property will have a “living lobby” with gardens in an arboretum.and will have the city's largest ballroom.

Title has been updated.

I agree with you Delirium, I hate when words are spelled wrong just so the business can own the name.

Another article, some renderings I haven't seen before.

Wow... terrible name. Maybe it won't be the focus, or what people commonly start calling it.

Nice renderings of the area. When Arc goes in, that part of down will be full in a hurry.

I love everything about this project, but I really hope they don't blew it with the glazing. They better use high-quality brown glass on this one!

I think they should have made the casino bigger. Edgewater is sort of out of the way of everything. The new location is going to be a lot busier, especially with two high end new hotels above it. I also would have liked taller towers with mixed use occupancy. Vegas has shown this to be a viable option with residential. Being a high end development I believe it could have been feasible. Still a beast of a project and I am excited to see how it turns out.

Welcome to the World Cup everyone, now enjoy the hole in the ground and make due with a 100% full stadium with reduced pedestrian flow and number of exits.

I love the project, but the timing could have been a bit better. Not going to look the best broadcast around the world.

The developers wanted nothing more than to expand gaming operations, but the nannies at city hall forbid it. Prudently, however, the developers are creating significantly more gaming floor space, thus allowing for an expansion of gaming operations in the future if a less paternalistic city council comes along.

Would have been if they hadn't accelerated the underground parkade construction

so a half billion dollar development should pause for a stupid soccer game?
imo, seeing a large construction site shows growth and prosperity. nothing wrong with that.

Why should the business world care about world cup timing? Money is everything, and delays are $$$. If you told me to delay to accommodate some event, I'd be telling you to write me a big fat cheque.
