No one forces you. I love music too, but refuse to see shows at CTC for many reasons you mentioned, but mainly because its a bad live music experience all around (forced to sit in one place-cant move around, no smoking, average sound etc). So I save my $ and instead elect to see live shows during the summer months, at festivals, outdoors, where the overall experience trumps that of an arena show.
As for the car dependent comment, its not entirely true, they do have OC transpo shuttles available for all sporting events and concerts, so you can always try that option if you are forced to go see a show there.
