Irregardless of what the Sens do, I think we should reserve a parcel of space somewhere in the core near the Confederation Line for future use as a replacement arena, even if it takes 20-30 years for that happen. In 20 years when CTC is at the end of its life there may not be any land left for redevelopment.

In other words, bring the urban back into urban planning.

I wonder if the people who complain about the location of the CTC have ever been to other cities for sporting events. Suburban stadiums are not rare at all.

LOL - now I know I'm not the only one! Unfortunately I am "forced" to venture there a couple of time a year for concerts (I prefer music to hockey), and am always furious by the time I finally get to my seat (typically after being stuck in piles of traffic, paying $13 to park in the mud...). I really hate how utterly car dependent the whole thing is. For so many reasons, the complete opposite of what we should be doing as a city and as individual citizens.

Suburban hockey arenas are, particularly ones built in the past 20 years.

In the NHL, they are also associated with struggling teams - Phoenix, NY Islanders, Florida, Carolina.

When it was approved the owner said he was just looking for a Plan B if the bus company tenants decided to go somewhere else. Since then they signed a new lease (don't recall for how long) but we should assume it will be with us for some time.

Not sure what suburban stadiums you are referring to. Even Olympic stadium is far from suburban. The rest of the arenas/ stadiums in both cities are basicslly right downtown.

I would from time to time, but since the new ticketing rules came into effect, screw that. The one advantage the bus to Montreal had over the train (besides price) was the extreme flexibility of when you departed and returned.

Coach Canada made an application to run Megabus from Kingston to Ottawa last year, not sure what came of it.

No one forces you. I love music too, but refuse to see shows at CTC for many reasons you mentioned, but mainly because its a bad live music experience all around (forced to sit in one place-cant move around, no smoking, average sound etc). So I save my $ and instead elect to see live shows during the summer months, at festivals, outdoors, where the overall experience trumps that of an arena show.

As for the car dependent comment, its not entirely true, they do have OC transpo shuttles available for all sporting events and concerts, so you can always try that option if you are forced to go see a show there.

The Islanders still play in Uniondale. They move next year.

My guess is that they will get more fans in Brooklyn than they have in the past 15 years, even with the small capacity of the Barclay's Center.

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to downtown facilities....Air Canada Centre and Bell Centre.
