Current News/Rumor is that Canada Computers is going to close the Rideau location.

A shame, only decent store downtown to buy computer parts or electronics.

The dark coloured banding really terrifies me after what has happened at the Union of Canada site. The banding there looks so cheap and tacky. I am happy they are going with different cladding on the different buildings but the cladding they chose seems random and disjointed.

What I DO like is that it's a different style than their other projects. I also like the height variation and what looks like a substantial amount of retail.

Claridge buildings

I agree. I do not like the dark brown colour of one of the buildings. I find that it does not go well with the gray. Hopefully, they come up with a better colour than that. When are they going to start construction? Are they also going to include a hotel? Are condos expensive to live in?

I talked to the guys in there a couple of months ago, they are opening a much larger location on Bank if I remember correctly...pretty sure it's Bank...

^ They really could use a bigger store. But is there anywhere on Bank that's bigger? Large stores are hard to get in the inner city.

They do have a marked preference for urban storefront locations, in many smaller cities (like Kingston) they have one, and it's in the core.

It's bizarre how downtown is getting totally gutted of computer and office-supply outfits.

Me three. I can't figure out for the life of me what is offending so many people about this one.

Height variety, new designs (not just another CP 1-4), and interesting roof feature....I'm all for it. Let's see how they can screw this one up though.

What is disappointing is the general mediocrity of the entire project. Just another couple of boxes on Rideau Street. And that red brick....

The L-shape building definitely is hideous with the two different colors with the section backing onto Georges been the worst (shades of the Pinnacle).

I love this building at ground level - there's two stories of retail and bright/vibrant storefront. Great pedestrian space. As for the design itself of the buildings... I can't even call this mediocre. The clashing colours hurt my eyes - the black on red brick building is almost repulsive.

Walking through this intersection, this is what we'll have to look at for the rest of our lives. lol.

That is funny. I actually really liked the Northern exposure of Pinacle as viewed from Lyon. Goes to show we all have different likes and tastes I suppose.

If the podium is actually built as rendered, it will look nice from street level. It's kinda rare for Claridge to put that much thought into street level. CP has a functional podium (retail right up on the sidewalk), but it's not very pretty.

Based on the second to last render it also seems there will be an increased set back over the current Metro.

The L-shape must be a favorite for Claridge. Down the street, they're proposing this blob, with a similar foot print.

Same for general stores that sell basic, everyday items. Giant Tiger and Dollarama aren't renowned for quality products.

Retail is concentrating on the ends. Low cost retail like Dollarama & Walmart is growing, and so is high cost retail like Nordstorm. Stuff in the middle, like Sears, is collapsing.

The white condo towers look nice, but I feel that the square brown buildings do not match well with the two white condo towers. These architects should have better taste than that, when it comes to choosing colours.

They are proposing one retail unit about 75k square feet (including storage/warehouse space), another unit just under 40k... definitely would be able to fit a replacement Metro and another major retailer.
